Road Running long 2:15:00 [3]

Met Robert at the lodge for a german-planned 2hrs, 7min/mile run. Wound our way down to the Embarcadero. Bumped inro Eversole and Nate about to cycle through Marin (Ben in for a tough morning!). They cycled with us for a bit as we jogged to Fort Mason, Crissy Field, then to the bridge, lands end, and through the park.

Diverted out again by outside lands. Last few miles uphill and on my own were hard. Stopped and strolled home along Haight street, pickin up a limonata to get me back. At probably almost 19 that'll be the longest (mostly) road run I've done in a while...

Couldn't manage to get a lift to Mill Valley, so had a quick breakfast, read a bit of Iceland book, then headed out for some reps on Lyon street steps. Managed 6 reps before my legs gave out on me. Good fun. Cooled down through the presidio, getting lost again. Stopped at a few sets of lights on the way back, and noticed that my quads were quivering...

Up twin peaks for a 'sunrise'. Soaked in the fog. Freezing by the time I go to the train.

It's probably been about a month since I've been here. Good fun, though I really need to make sure to pack appropriate shorts.

Trail Running tempo 48:14 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (23:14 @4)

Lunch tempo on the bay trail, WU to some landmark, big ol' loop back to the landmark, then back to discover catastrophic error of judgement with leftover pasta quantities.

I think it was 4 miles on the dot and, took 23:15 ~ 5:48/mile, which sounds reasonable: I wasn't pushing hard, it was trails, and it was windy. Maybe I'll run further next week.

Exploring the Presidio, with a bonus descent and climb of Lyon steps. Missed some of the nicer and hillier trails, I think, but nice and quiet. Also found a few tiny singletrack trails in the park that have some homeless bike thief camps in clearings beside them.

Up to 22 laps (lengths?) adding in a bit of head dippage. Quieter in Mission Pool today; I suspect weather related.

Trail Running intervals 1:10:00 intensity: (47:30 @2) + (22:30 @5)

West Valley Tuesday. Continued the theme of workouts in the park with 3 loops of Strawberry Hill: ~800m flat, ~700m up, ~700m down. A really nice loop. 7.32, 7.30, 7.28.

Tucked in with Kevin for each rep, though he squeezed in front of me on the final 50m uphill in the last lap. Hamstrings are a mess still but I'm genuinely surprised to be running that fast.

Monday Aug 1, 2016 #

Note

Back training again. Actually, never stopped, but never very focussed or high volume.

Now cautiously planning on getting fitter for XC, FRA relays, and maybe a trail race in early December.

Working on the anecdotal evidence that it takes a while to get back running fast after a big change, I'm not too fussed how the rest of this year goes. I'll try to use it to sort out a few muscle group weaknesses, such as the apparent lack of hamstrings.

Week 1

Trail Running 45:00 [2]

Easy paced cruise around shoreline, struggling to have decent form with wrecked hamstrings. Usual Egrets hanging out in the salt flats.
6 PM

Yoga 1:30:00 [0]

Discovered the 'Month of Yoga' introductory pass at Yoga Mayu in the mission. $49 for 12 classes over August. They also give out free granola bars and tea after class. Factoring in granola savings ($1, minimum) and tea-bonus, my ambition is to get to effectively < $4 classes.
