Decided that instead of jogging the tempo route, I would run with Gus for the first two miles. I was relaxed and in control and I felt like it was a responsible decision because I wasn't feeling competitive so my judgement wasn't clouded. So we ran 7:14, then 7:11 and then I got off the path and onto the grass. We slowed down to 8:03 (intentionally), and then I went ahead and did a 7:40. It felt really good, and I made sure to stretch well and take care of my feet. No pain.
Next week I think I'll be good to do something at a steady speed of 7:30.
