I signed up yesterday. Obviously can always decide not to go.

I didn't go last year, and was really glad I didn't when I saw how long people had taken on the course. But I was also not in good condition, had caught a cold post-Turkey and didn't run for 2 or 3 weeks. Hopefully this year will be a little better.

Though I was dismayed a little by Jeff's statement about what he is planning -- "I decided for this year, the 40th running of the TRaverse, that I would use 6 of the 7 original control locations, so thus following the course of the original, but add in controls from many of the past traverses. The original would be quite boring on today's detailed maps. So there are some easy controls, from the original '73 course, and others chosen from past courses to add interest."

My issue with the BHT over the years has been that a good bit of the forest there is crap (thick or rocky or both). I think I would prefer a course that "would be quite boring on today's maps" -- I assume that means there would be quite a lot of trail running and controls wouldn't be in the crappy areas. Sounds just fine.

So the course will get toughened up, sadly.

a long time ago I ran an A meet in BH and dropped my punch card. I think somebody found it, but I was new to O and I spent quite a bit of time searching for the card and then quitting. The one thing I learned from that event was that the Blue Hills maps and woods sucked. It's interesting terrain, but update the maps!!
I will sign up and hope for a simple, shiggy free course with a great bowl of soup waiting for me at the finish.

The maps have been updated many times since then. But to no avail: the terrain keeps changing.
