This should be in its own thread...

GVOC is organizing the BC Champs 2006 in Whistler. Probably last weekend of August. There will be a middle Saturday morning, a sprint Saturday afternoon and then a long on Sunday. We are looking into ideas to extend the week and create something similar to the PNWOF. One idea could be to have several days of sprint orienteering in Vancouver, as Hammer suggests, in the week leading up to the Whistler events. Our club will have around 10 proper sprint maps (ISSOM standard) by next summer. Then we could also throw in some events (or training camp) in the great terrain in the Kamloops area on the weekend before Whistler.

Feedback, please! What does the Attackpoint crowd think? Would some of you consider traveling here for such a week of orienteering?

Yup, but I would only go for about 3-4 days.

Does Guelph have dates for the COCs that are going to be in the summer, 2006?

Just assuming the Whistler terrain is good, I'm probably with Hammer on this - a weeklong festival would be a hell of a lot of O so soon after COC's in Ontario. Not that I can't see the argument for August to avoid conflicting with the school year for juniors.

I wasn't aware of when the COCs would take place. I looked, but couldn't find any info on it. From what I can see now it still is not decided. Just says mid or late August. Who will decide this date and when? Can I talk to someone and try to coordinate the two events? How much time between the events is needed for people to consider going to both?

If you have lots of sprints, I will definitely try to get out there.

That's practically in my backyard, so I'll probably attend at least part of it, assuming I'm around at that time.

If you're planning to build a week of events, I advocate for the inclusion of a six hour rogaine (preferably in Kamloops) and maybe a goat event during the mid-week. I see that WOC is at the beginning of August, so late August woudn't conflict--good.
