I am no foot expert but i dont know how much difference orthotics make in an orienteering shoe were you land so differently every step. I only wear my orthotics in running shoes and normal shoes were the stride and the way your foot lands is the same every time.

Maybe you are right. It's just that the foot hurts the most when running on uneven surfaces, but perhaps the orthotics will help anyway.

I always wear my orthodic in my O shoes... but also in my running shoes. Maybe wearing them in your running shoes will help your foot heal enough that it won't hurt in your O shoes.

I deliberately don't wear orienteering shoes because of this problem. I've switched to trail running shoes. Which works ok except when it's wet or rocky...

I found I needed to wear orthotics all the time in O-shoes, but I had to buy a bigger size shoe. The latest orthotics don't fit even in those, but do work in a different brand.

Has anyone tried orthotics in Sarvas? Maybe that can be a reasonable compromise, since I was slipping and sliding on the ice and snow in running shoes last night.

I used to use Sarvas but the redesign as of 2004-05 meant they are now a little lower-cut, and my orthotics won't fit them any more. YMMV.

The maker of your orthotics should be able to adjust them to fit your shoes. The problem might be, that then they fit o-shoes but are too wide for running shoes.

I solved the problem by using the inner part (the fiberglass skeleton, so to speak), and I cover it with a thin insole (not the O-shoe insole).

Like this I have the foot supported while not lifting it in the shoe. The problem with many foot supports is that they give so much lift that the shoe doesn't fit anymore, especially around the heel.
