Nev mentioned that private money needs to increase in Canadian sport. I agree but if more sports were to have opps to be on TV then it would be easier for private money or corporate money to get involved. So here is a simple solution the government could do. A certain percentage of sports broadcasting on TV must be amateur sports. You know just like CanCon helped get airplay and expand Canada's music industry.
So if that minimum was say 30% then a variety of different sports would have increased chances of getting on TV and luring in big corporate dollars. If a TV station was a sports station then 30% of all their material would have to amateur.
So instead of broadcasting crap like Poker we would hopefully see more events like trail running, XC skiing, volleyball, and perhaps even orienteering.
