Mangerton

Parked at the forest junction before the trail starts for a warm/up down. Plan was to take it handy, mind the calves on the way up and the quads on the way down.

Calves I think were ok going up, but did maybe feel the right one a bit before the descent. Quads were tired towards the end though, so maybe not as easy to mind them.

Nice morning, not too warm, not too windy either. And had good views over the Lakes and the Reeks.

Enjoyable morning run.

Had to upload this manually, Garmin didn't synch automatically for some reason. Will see what happens with next session.

West from Dunmore East on the cliff walk

First 2km were trail, but after Portally Cove there was a lot of grass, that section of the path they have started work on, some fencing up, but mainly grass. So that was nice.

Bit of up and down with the coves.

5km got me to Rathmoylan Cove, so a good point to turn around, not sure there is much of a path after that.

So turned back the way I came. Met a few people between Portally and Dunmore East on the way back.

It was humid running. Rain came on the way home, light to start and got heavy on the way to Ardmore later for some touristing. Cleared up when we got to Ardmore Farm/Zoo :-)

And that's the end of the Waterford holiday, back to Kerry tomorrow.

Mount Pleasant - Dunmore East - Airport - Ballygunner - Mount Pleasant

Wind from the south so headwind to Dunmore East. Didn't mind it that much though, didn't feel like it was slowing me too much. Spotted a bike going up the hill before Dunmore East WWTP and that helped drive me to catch him, met the chap coming against me just after Dunmore East.

Hill out of Dunmore East wasn't that bad, but there were a few more ramps over the course of the spin. Also some sharp descents which always seemed to be into S bends plus junctions! Took the descents carefully as it's not my bike and not my usual roads.

Same return home via the airport as Tuesday, but with a tailwind today I was moving quickly. Also was trying to improve the avg for the spin, so a bit of extra effort put in.

Looking at the climb for the spin it was more than I usually do to Ladies View and back, based on what Garmin/Strava are saying, AP showing less climb. Definitely lumpy terrain around here.

Dunmore East MapRunF

Straightforward start, keeping it simple. Took the straighter route to 4 for the sake of some climb. Then back tracked to 5.

6 had more briars so more blood on the legs. Smaller path that I was on next had a few more too.

Had a few seconds of a wait on 7 for the watch to register.

Lost a few seconds on 12, but down where I wanted to but then had to figure out how to get down to housing estate, went left, no joy in terms of a route down, so back and then cut across down through some forest.

Tough hill up to 13 from the main road but had a rest waiting for the watch to punch here. It was a bit slow on 14 too. Bit of contouring around, then dropping to the valley before up again.

Came out to the open and road for 15.

Got a bit worried on the way to 16 as passing 8 the watch registered 8 again. But it registered 16 when I got there, didn't fancy having to rerun the course again.

Straightforward orienteering, limited route choice.

Some bit of a feeling in between calf and shin on left leg, still there afterwards but not worse.

Road 7:45 [2] 1.6 km (4:51 / km) +10m 4:42 / km
ahr:143 max:159 shoes: New Balance 890 v8 (red)

Back to the car the same way as I got to the start but took a detour to the end of the car park for a view of the harbour and some cliffs.

If I get time to run on Friday, i think i'll come back here and run the cliff path.

Mount Pleasant - Passage East - Woodstown - Airport - Ballygunner - Mount Pleasant

On Eoin's bike. Just sat on it, no adjusting, and set off. Planned a route in my head but did adjust the last bit to go via Ballygunner to get home, felt it might be easier/safer than the bypass.

A lot of small ups and small downs, with the biggest up out of Woodstown.

Did have a scary incident in Passage East when a car decided to pull out and turn towards me on my side of the road. Even a pedestrian was shouting at the car! Avoided it and kept on going.

Nice spin, with views over the estuary to start off with. Last bit near the airport was exposed though on a wide road, so windy there.

Legs in shreds after last nights orienteering, and also a bit tired.

JFK Arboretum loop

One way system in operation, clockwise. And you had to stick to the road, the smaller paths were ‘closed’ due to COVID 19 restrictions with no running signs too. Bit odd considering the size of the park and the limited numbers of people. And even odder when you look at all the kids/parents milling around the playground, and I include ourselves there.

Lovely afternoon. Got the Passage East ferry too over and the new bridge to bypass New Ross on the way home. Impressive bridge.

Ballinakill Woods

Ran with MapRunG on the watch and map as a pdf on the phone. That combination worked well. Did have to stop at a couple of controls to let the GPS catch up and register. But it got all the controls.

Think it was number 20 that was the oddest as there were 2 people at the gate talking. I ran up to the pole just near them and stopped looking at my watch before running off again. To make it look even odder my legs were in bits with scratches so had a good colouring of red/blood on them.

The track from 6-7 was overgrown. And I really do mean overgrown. Stupidly I didn’t turn around. When I’d those thoughts I’d gotten myself in too much trouble to back down. Bad again near 7 but the bit after 6 was desperate.

Good fun to run around a few estates looking at my phone.

Will try Dunmore East later in the week.

Road 8:27 [3] 1.89 km (4:28 / km) +33m 4:07 / km

Back to the house a slightly different direction. Uphill to get home. Legs alright.
