Glenflesk-Barraduff-Anablaha-Glebe

Thought I might do 40k but ended up pushing it out to just over the 45k. Didn’t think I would though as body feeling tired when I got going. Combination of the last few days and interrupted sleep. Was wrecked when I got up but ok after a couple of hours awake. The last interruption this morning I managed to walk into the corner of the bed, so expect a nice bruise on my shin after that!

Lovely day again, sun shining so warm.

Happy with how the spin felt during the climbing. Had a PR up the Anablaha school hill, unexpected. Body did lack energy for the last 10k I’d say, not a good decision to not have a gel when I did put an extra one in my pocket for that purpose.

Went around Woodlawn to get home rather than Port & Mission Roads. Traffic busy these days so thought it would be quieter with that option.

Bought rhubarb to make a crumble with shopping. Made the crumble yesterday evening and realised that despite buying rhubarb for the specific purpose to make a crumble with I didn’t buy custard!!!

Killarney-Glenflesk-Kilgarvan-Kenmare
Lap of Mangerton

Wore cycling gloves and added a pad of cotton wool in the with the left glove for some extra padding. Was able to cycle without pain really, only felt it when roads were rough. Left knee is just road rash so that was fine.

Lovely day, blue skies. So warm in the end. Legs almost cramped coming up the hill home but I was putting them under a bit of pressure trying to chase a MTB up the hill. Had to ease off :(

Nice spin in the sun. Lots of traffic on the roads though so plenty of noise.

New surface being put down out of Kenmare so kept a few cars behind me as we were in a lane of cones. That being said I was probably moving faster because of the better surface.

Was slower today between Morleys Bridge and Kenmare than the spin in June. Did interrupt todays spin in that section with a pit stop. But maybe the wind was behind me in June.

I was 2.30 faster roughly on Molls Gap though and faster from Kenmare to Muckross.

Had a clean start to the descent today from Loosacaunagh, car pulled out in front of me from the viewing point above the cafe but let me through before Derrycunnihy. From then i'd a clean bit but as expected caught the minibus. Was more careful today, gave the cars stuck behind it more room. Had to stop at the tunnel too.

Legs weren't too bad today, so that was good. Still trying to get my right calf right. Might try an easy run tomorrow to see what happens.

Turned into a lovely afternoon so was warm on the bike.

Collected the bike this morning and the new brake pads came in handy, probably would have had a proper crash into the back of a car without them. This car saw a car and decided to brake suddenly after the tunnel. It was a downhill section so i'd a lot of speed to lose quickly. Didn't manage to lose it all so the back of the car stopped me. Then being clipped in I toppled to my left onto the ditch damaging my hand as I tried to stop myself.

The car behind me checked if I was ok and a car coming against me, not the car that stopped me!

Put the chain back on and had a painful at times ride home. Had been moving well before that.

Lough Guitane-Glenflesk-Barraduff-Killarney

I'm not sure how AP decided this was orienteering when it imported as that would be record breaking min/km if it was. Adjusted the time to moving time but think it was even less than that due to traffic getting across the N22 and Woodlawn lights.

Out on the old bike again as other one only ready this afternoon.

Some wind which I felt was a headwind when cycling in more than 1 direction. Legs not feeling too good today and Woodlawn I struggled. Felt better after turning onto Muckross Road into the wind again and decided to go up Loretto Road for some extra climbing, had considered it earlier in the spin as an option.

My 2nd fastest time up Loretto Rd which is a good thing on what is a heavier bike. Although I did say that I could improve my Loretto Rd time a while back but haven't gone near it since.

Will be on the bike for the next couple of days, right calf not a happy camper after yesterday, probably should have biked rather than ran yesterday as legs still sore after physio. Might try running on Sunday. Kenmare plan definitely postponed, maybe next week.

Muckross Lake (clockwise)

Delayed the run by an hour and that worked a treat. Weather changed from being miserably wet to dry in the intervening period, so had a dry run, was humid though.

Legs ok after physio yesterday, and right calf struggled towards the end. More to the side rather than in the middle where the usual trouble is. Will see how it reacts later and tomorrow.

A few people out and about around Dinis but met less bikes than I expected. Weather earlier may have put them off.

Plenty of water around the meeting of the waters, some flooding, on the path out to the Old Weir Bridge, but i've seen worse.

Physio 1:00:00 [0]

Nothing major but did get the physio to check my back out to start with. Definitely a work station issue.

She'd been studying over lockdown and started off the session looking at my feet/toes. I'm to focus on moving my toes further apart so as to spread the weight/impact where it's supposed to be spread on the feet.

My brain cannot tell my toes what to do, it's something i'll have to work on.

Pre-breakfast on the old bike

Good bike I dropped in for a service last week and didn't get home on time on Saturday to collect it. So had a new tube + tyre put on before I went on holiday so it held up this morning. Was grand actually on it. Probably 1st time in 5 years this bike has seen anywhere but the turbo.

Main aim was recovery but maybe pushing a bit more than recovery pace.

Legs were tired, and given how they felt after finishing running yesterday I was expecting more serious DOMS, which I don't have. Glutes were sore for a bit, I expect that'll hurt tomorrow on the physio table.

Not a bad morning, headwind on the way out but didn't feel like I was moving well on the way back to make use of the tailwind.
10 AM

Note

I think this week's plan will be more definitive, especially since I've one session done already writing the plan. Finally getting some physio, probably early March since the last time. So that is actually a good thing that i've managed to make it this far.

I hope to either get the Kenmare-Killarney run done either on Friday (depends on if Mary is working) or next Tuesday.

Monday - Bike
Tuesday - Physio (rest)
Wednesday - Run
Thursday - Bike
Friday - Run
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Run
