Running (Street & Trail) 21:41 [3] 2.46 mi (8:49 / mi) +1m 8:48 / mi
slept:6.5 (injured)

Hatteras, NC. From Lighthouse Rd., Flambeau Rd., right on Eagle Pass Rd., left on Rte. 12, left on Eagle Pass Rd., then back on Flambeau Rd. Earlier in the day we'd spent a little while at the beach, toured a shipwreck museum in Hatteras (Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum), and went up the Hatteras Lighthouse which is in a town to the northeast, in Buxton. It was fun seeing these places again. It'd been about 15-20 years since I was last in the area and it seems to me that it's become more commercial. The sand at the beach was very nice-fine and white. Despite strong winds, the waves were not so big. A cool front had come through making the skys mostly clear. Before running, I rode around using Peggy's bicycle, with Samantha who was practicing with training wheels. I was tired on the very flat run, from all of the walking around, but I could feel the humidity and was sweating a lot when the wind was at my back. Also on the run, I could see a big orange ball of a sunset across the sound to the west--very nice. The run went around some marsh lands which were quite pretty in that light and I even saw something that looked like a racoon.

Bicycling (Commute) 38:30 intensity: (30:00 @3) + (8:30 @4) 12.1 mi (3:11 / mi)
slept:5.4 weight:191lbs (injured)

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. I rode alone (one guy passed me after I had to slow for a pedestrian) and after passing through Georgetown I felt a pretty good tailwind until the Jefferson Memorial and then it was against me.

Bicycling (Commute) 46:00 [3] 12.02 mi (3:50 / mi)
(injured)

From 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD. Once again, to avoid repaving at Glenbrook Rd., I rode around on Bradley Blvd. but this time got home via Wilson Ln. and Hampden Ln. I had left work at 5:57pm, late due to to a last minute snafu with a data call being turned-in. All the while riding home, I wasn't sure if I was going to stay home this evening, or head to the Outer Banks at Hateras, NC, to meet Peggy, the kids, and the Lennon family. I ultimately did the later, pulling in just before 2am.

Bicycling (Commute) 42:00 [3] 12.1 mi (3:28 / mi)
slept:4.0 weight:189lbs (injured)

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. My last commuting ride all the way to my office was 2 months ago, just before my back problems got worse. This morning the ride started with some relatively cool air. I got slowed on the road work to repave Glenbrook Rd. It'll be nice to have those bumps smoothed over but it's not likely to be done before I return later today. At the traffic light at Bradley Blvd. I waited with another rider and we ended up riding into Georgetown together. He was on a fixed gear so neither of us wanted to push the pace. We got passed once but ended up passing the same guy and a lot of others too. Other trail and road works were visible in DC, so the ride should eventually be smoother altogether. There was a slight headwind along the water. It was humid and the temperatures were around 80 F. I've been eating too much food lately. It is food that my mom and sister gave when we returned so that our family wouldn't have to cook so much but they forgot that Peggy, Max and Samantha, were to be at the beach all week.

Bicycling (Commute) 46:00 [3] 12.04 mi (3:49 / mi)
(injured)

From 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD. There was a light sprinkling of rain as I went the first few miles. A slight tailwind helped. It was still warm, probably around 90 F. I kept the pace comfortable by spinning and didn't have anyone pushing me. Construction at a few places in DC continued as did the road work on Glenbrook Dr. in Bethesda. To avoid Glenbrook, I rode around on Bradley Blvd. and got home via Wilson Ln. and Aberdeen Rd.

Bicycling (Commute) 6:30 [3] 1.4 mi (4:39 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:186.5lbs (injured)

From Northfield Rd., to the Bethesda Metro Station. I wasn't very sore from riding yesterday, though a little tired. I did wake up with the usual pains in my right hip area that are probably related to my back problems.
6 PM

Bicycling (Commute) 6:45 [3] 1.41 mi (4:47 / mi)
(injured)

From the Bethesda Metro Station, to Northfield Rd. I had picked-up some items at the grocery store so I had to ride with two plastic bags hanging on both hands at the handle bars. Interestingly, this seemed to add to balance. The weight of the bags, lower center of gravity, and the way they could swing in any direction made it harder to turn and tip. It was hot, probably close to 90 F and more humid than I'm used to.

Running (Street & Trail) 29:19 [3] 3.24 mi (9:03 / mi) +42m 8:42 / mi

From Northfield Rd., Greenwich Park, to Old Georgetown Rd. to Beech Ave., to N. Bethesda Middle School to Bradmore Dr. to McKinley St. to Garfield St., to Roosevelt St., to the trail at Jefferson St. to Northfield Rd. This was my best road run in a while. I faded toward the end but that was just endurance and the heat. It was still close to 90 F and humid when I ran.

Bicycling (Road) 1:23:30 [3] 20.02 mi (4:10 / mi) +295m 3:59 / mi
slept:6.5 weight:188lbs (injured)

From Northfield Rd., Huntington Pkwy. to Bradley Blvd., to Seven Locks Rd., to Montrose Rd., to the Montrose Pkwy. to Executive Blvd., to Old Georgetown Rd., to Edson Rd., to Rockville Pike, to Strathmore Ave., to Beach Dr., to Jones Mill Rd., to Jones Bridge Rd., to Rockville Pike, to Woodmont Ave., to Battery Ln., to Custer Rd., to Northfield Rd., I set out for a 20 mile ride and made it up as I went along. I certainly wasn't used to doing it. It seemed so strange that I used to do this just about daily and so much more easily. The miles went by slowly. I geared down for climbs keeping a better than expected pace through the first half or more. My back didn't give me too much trouble but my right leg felt weak early. Later, while still riding, it got a little sore. I kept slowing. The traffic stops; there were many toward the end, helped me recuperate. It was probably in the mid 80s F with a healthy breeze.
