core/legs 21:00 intensity: (10:00 @0) + (10:00 @1) + (1:00 @2)

Haven't been to the pool bc my hands hurt from even the small (-ish) amount of crutching I've been doing, and also I still haven't completely figured out how to schedule rides the right way. (Also worried about my wrists!)

But my mom convinced me to give some pilates a try, so I did some of that (had to skip anything with weight on feet or hands) and then added some of my own core as well.

In my continued efforts to crutch-proof my apartment, I found a better way to go up/down the stairs, I got a cart I can use to take food to/from the kitchen, I hung all my clothes in packing cubes by my bed so I don't have to stand up, made a snack shelf I can reach from my work station, and made a little trashcan + snack/shower wipe/advil/water/iron pill/etc. caddy and stuck it to the wall by my bed with command strips. Also submitted the form to housing about getting handles for my bathroom/shower.

Have also been wearing both boots more often and not really going anywhere except running participants and the pool. Started off way too optimistic (without much direction from my doctor, tbf) and now have had to really scale it back because of continued pain. Pretty annoying, but would've been worse if I was in the all-out-participant-running phase of the project. Also would be worse if I didn't have a prime membership or nice neighbors/friends who bring me snacks and coffee!

crutching 15:00 [1]

To and from scan! Also around operator room, etc. and taking laptop back to lab for my labmate to test stuff on. This was a first-time participant and they got claustrophobic and had to come out... so also did some scrambling to find a new participant! And found an experienced one :)

crutching 15:00 [1]

To screen/projector testing at the scanner, then to and from behavioral session at lab.

swimming (pull buoy) 42:00 intensity: (1:00 @1) + (27:00 @2) + (14:00 @3) 0.74 mi (56:45 / mi)

Morning!!! I was out of sunscreen so decided morning would be least likely to sunburn me, but I failed to account for the fact that the sun comes up super early here and so was already pretty strong. Hopefully still better than afternoon though. We'll see what happens...

Ubered there and was a bit late, but wanting to be careful anyway, since I've already been pleasantly surprised w how much I can swim and don't wanna overdo it (esp since I can only use my arms rn)

4x50 warmup, ~10s rest

3 x 300 with ~15-20s rest (all between 6:40 and 7:00; I forget individual times)

4 x 50 cooldown, ~10-20s rest

rest of day, from lab home, then ubering to Maggie's going away, etc

crutching 5:00 [1]

Annoying that they don't have a disability-mobile stop in the lower-rent grad housing. This was crutching across the field to get my ride, ~300m. The OSD person said she personally couldn't change anything with Transit services but that I could try to ask them about it. My driver later in the day said I could just schedule all my rides over the phone, and I wouldn't get a confirmation that way, but that might be better.

In other news, lab going-away happy hour for one of my favorite labmates, and also in the process of scheduling my first subject of my final data set of grad school! Busy day!

swimming (pull buoy) 52:00 intensity: (46:00 @2) + (6:00 @3) 1.05 mi (49:31 / mi)

This was actually only like 48 min of swimming, but I forgot to turn off my watch, and it picked up extra zone 2 minutes.

4 x 50 (maybe a bit faster than before--first was <60s, but the rest mellowed out)

Felt so great!!! Was breathing every 3rd stroke most of the time after the first 2 50's. And the best part was it was raining! It was very practical for me since I'm out of sunscreen, but also it's just nice for it to finally rain here :)
