So much for my worries that I might have given the control away as I exited. Not that it wasn't clear you were still searching too high as I passed you but I assumed you'd figure it out quickly - I wasn't making any effort, a la Peter Gagarin, to pretend I was still looking for the control.

I thought you were still looking for it. I had gotten down to about the same point where I first saw you earlier, even seeing kink in the trail where the control was (but not the control in the depression). I underestimated the distance down to the stream and confused the trail bend further down with the kink in the trail where the control was at. I could have saved another 3 minutes or more by ignoring you and going down like I started to and eventually did. I wandered back up looking between the trails in the low vegetation. Eventually I noticed you'd left. My fogged glasses did contribute to the mess but I really flubbed that one--embarrassing!
