Don't say that! I bought a bottle of 10 y.o. Glen Grant. I thought it tasted fine, but I'm a definite whiskey newbie.

Yeah I'm sure it is - it is just a joke because the GlenLivet is the most popular scotch in Canada mainly because the GlenLivet was bought by Seagrams out of Montreal a few decades ago. I am not fond of it. The 'Scotch Hydrology Workshop' I attend (ie a bunch of hydrology profs drinking scotch at a prof's cottage) bans the Glenlivet and Glenfiddich from attending. That then expanded to the the anti 'Glen in the name' rule. ;-)

We took a tour of the Glenfiddich distillery, so I got a taste of some. It seemed like all the whisky there tasted like... whisky. Sure, the 12, 15, and 20 all tasted different, but they all tasted like whisky. Each unappetizing in their own way. I can't say I see what all the fuss is about.

I have some pretty respectable Glenlivet XXV. If you're gonna have something with Glen in the name, that'd be one to consider. Probably not the very best scotch I've ever had, but darned close.

Haven't dared to crack open the 1973 Dalwhinnie yet, though. That'll be well up there...
