Are you sure he meant Fazli-style Indian, or did he maybe mean Fred Two-eggs-over-easy kind of Indian, meaning American?

Hard to know of course, but by the level of his surprise at americano, I think the former.

Talking to people in Italian is an adventure. I often marvel at what I have said, as I puzzle out a more appropriate phrase on the way out the door. In another language, I would be afflicted with l'esprit d'escalier.
