Objects, paths, vegetation boundaries etc. with GPS is OK but
how did you got land form contours ?

Jagge:
Well, I had base map and I draw my mapping on it in my phone. It looked about like this:

Base map is taken from City of Helsinki's web site, some sort of cadarstral boundary map with contours of 2 m interval.

My map has 2.5 m interval. I did not draw full contours in forest, I draw just cliffs, knolls, reentrants (with short part contour line) and important changes in base map contours. When I was done I used base map contours, interpolated 2.5 m contours from them and draw then to approximately right level and made it hit cliffs, reentrants and other stuff I had already drawn at that altitude level.

Contours may need some polishing and fine tuning, I'll make new base map for phone from the current ocd map and draw adjustments on it - not the original base map - and take it to ocad as background image.

Ok. I see. Otherwise I was wondering if you have yet another contour aware sense ;)
Do you calibrate this basemap with phone on the field ?

Jagge:
There is tool to calibrate map with 3 points on the field (pointing current location three times with stylus), but I calibrated this one by taking 3 points (road crossings) from the web. I began mapping this before I did the on field calibration tool.

But yes, I have magic contour aware sense. I can sense both up and down contours very well. I call my downhill sense bad knee and uphill sense bad fitness. Both senses have been getting better and better over the years.

Wonder what's your contour interval indication method..? One swear word / 5m downwards and 10 deep breaths / 5m upwards?

Jagge:
I am more sensitive than that - I can easily map with 2.5 m contour intervals these say. I am sure Hirppa can use the same method, but get only index contours mapped.

Plus phone mapping technology has been getting better over the years, along with the improved fitness and knee technologies Jagge mentions.

Jagge, I am have been experimenting as well with some revolutionary and highly exciting abdominal repair technologies, but I am not prepared yet to recommend this for night mapping.
