it sounds like a good race the first day and a really brutal on the second day. A great result on the first day though. Sounds like good terrain. As you know, I take compass bearings a lot more than you. For me they are helpful but you seem to do fine without them. Was there some reason you tried to use the compass more this time?
I think the combination of more subtle features, especially on the first day, and less visibility than most BAOC terrain meant I was using the compass much more. Maybe it would help if when I decided to take an accurate bearing, I try to ignore the contours so I stay on course. Is this what you do?
