Firstly it is not to get distracted from the task at hand! If you can do that and then maybe use the other runner if they are ahead and going in what looks like the right direction, that is OK and may save a few seconds.

Thanks. That was the first time I was running 'with' someone in a sprint where I knew they had to be on the same course as me.
