Orienteering race 1:21:05 [3] 9.4 km (8:38 / km) +175m 7:53 / km

Penn Woods - Short Brown 8.3k 160m.
Felt strong today and was keeping pace splits wise with people ranked well above me. Scrappy from 4 to 10. Two minute lad caught me at 7, who left standing on the hills but I was running at same pace elsewhere. Tried to be clever at 13 and get ahead and lost 1.15. 18 was the easiest long leg and lost 1.30. Saw lad 120m east of 19 going to 20 and gambled thinking, he had just come from it- 3 mins lost. Could have been best ranking event if I'd tried not be clever.
Need to carry positives to JK & BOC and be calmer when small errors creep in.

Note

Been sleeping better this week, with a lot of work and hospital stuff to juggle. It's clear the ultra took more out of me than any previous event.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] 8.5 km (8:14 / km) +180m 7:27 / km

Picket Hill - Blue 5.9k 180m
Tired and tight and didn't get better. Hard dry ground didn't help either. Even 3-4k would have been too much.
Turned off the main road into the CP, only to see two Cheftain tanks approaching 30m ahead. They spent the next 2 hours thundery about at speed around the tracks that criss-crossed the course. Chilling and cool.
