took it steady and was able to keep it going all the way, off-line a couple of times, particularly on #7 despite trying to follow the rough bearing, overshot #18 but only by 10m or so, was tempted in early on #21, but knew it and adjusted quickly

6th, 2.5mins behind Andy Munro, (10th on the course)

started steady planning to step up the pace after the first few controls, but couldn't really step it up, felt decidely moderate, knew I was going to be challenging for the podium, one mistake running across the road I was meant to turn on (30s)

4th (20th), 2mins behind Richard Barrett, 4 behind Nathan Lawson

one big mistake: forgetting my glasses, changed tops and neglected to put glasses back on, realised in start lane, I had a magnifier on the compass, but it was harder to use than the glasses and I struggled to pick on the paths on the north edge, loss little bits of time on four of the controls along there, over 30s at least, my minute man went AWOL somewhere so didn't have any one to race, didn't have the guts to attack the hill at the end and going around cost 5+secs

8th, only 12secs off 5th place, 33 off 4th, 2.5mins behind James

surprise route from Darley Bridge that didn't go up to Stanton, not as muddy as I feared, good work up the hill to Jughole, felt chesty, but kept going, fairly easy as Paul was struggling
