7 PM

running 19:29 [2] 3.57 km (5:27 / km) +30m 5:14 / km
shoes: Inov8 Trailclaw 250

Forty Acre Piece
a little jaunt around my old 2km forest circuit, the new path is almost 2km and firm so might be worth another visit, the wood is now a maze of extraction lanes and rides probably making it more usable as a local O venue

Wednesday Apr 24 #

10 AM

Orienteering 1:10:32 [3] 7.35 km (9:36 / km) +300m 7:58 / km
shoes: Inov8 Arctic Talon 275

Errwood North
terrain run/map check through some rough stuff and some lovely stuff, legs were fine but overheated and struggled for breath at times

11 AM

Mapping 1:55:00 [1] 3.71 km (31:00 / km) +100m 27:19 / km
shoes: Inov8 Arctic Talon 275

poking around Errwood, climbing thru windblow and pushing through so-called fight

Sunday Apr 21 #

1 PM

running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 1.0 km (8:00 / km) +10m 7:37 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212b

jog around car park and around start, not many drills

Orienteering race 1:09:47 [5] 11.45 km (6:06 / km) +260m 5:28 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212b

JK Long, Cold Ash
strategy was to cruise around conserving energy, push when I could, took until #11 to catch 2mins on Ricky Baxter, time to push on the 'urban' leg, downed a gel on the long path run to #16, still ended up plodding uphill to #23 and #24, better to #27

9th, 5mins behind JL (who was carrying an injury and couldn't engage top gear)

six years ago, I was 27th in this race

3 PM

running warm up/down 5:00 [1] 0.4 km (12:30 / km) +15m 10:32 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212b

joined Jon Cross and Roger Goddard on their warm-down though we passed my car fairly soon

Saturday Apr 20 #

1 PM

running warm up/down 8:30 [3] 1.4 km (6:04 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212b

easy run to the start, which became faster when I realised I'd forgotten my CD holder and had to go back

Orienteering race 42:42 [5] 6.35 km (6:43 / km) +250m 5:37 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212b

JK Middle distance, Old Windmill Hill
tough conditions for everyone, 23° and a lot climb in the second half of the race, blew it when fatigue encouraged me to choose an indirect route to avoid climb when there was in fact very little to avoid, also executed poorly (2mins), v slow into next control taking wrong route out of rhoddies and not making sense of veg in circle (1min)

9th, 6mins behind JL
