Note

We attended the Pink Martini / Philadelphia Philharmonic concert Friday evening. Glorious performance.

But the claim of handicap accessible by the Saratoga Performing Arts Center is preposterous. Yes, a jitney will carry you fromParking to the apron around the covered seating area, but then you are on your own to walk down a cement aisle of about 30% pitch, in our case for about 40’, descending the equivalent of one building story. No railing. We had no idea we would be confronted by such a steep slope. The climb back up after the totally wiped us out.

We had searched when buying tickets for wheelchair “seats “ like Tanglewood offers it none seemed to exist.

To reach a restroom at intermission, your choices are to descend 30 steps to the left side of the stage basement or climb steep ramps through the uncovered ( rain soaked ) lawn area ( all mud, little grass due to a prior rock concert and the monsoon) and hike 50 yards .

It was so traumatic for us. Susan can barely shuffle along a flat parking lot but can cope, with my arm, up and down carpeted aisles in every civilized theater we’ve ever visited .

Unless SPAC offers us a satisfactory solution (they haven’t returned my call yet), we plan to forfeit our tickets for this coming Friday’s Rachmaninov concert.
