NOC Midland Champs Sherwood Forest
Pretty good until #9 where there were a few people running in circles - I came through unscathed but missed #10 to the east wondering if they were catching [30]
#12 Not precise enough after leaving path, but distracted further by another runner quickly catching me then following almost literally in my footsteps before having the cheek to ask which number I was looking for... [50]
#15 Still not taking enough time to pick off the trees - ended up in wrong clearing to the north [30]
#18 Biggest mistake after seeing others catching me on the in and out at #17. Jumped ahead on map so went in one block too early to check out the wrong clearing [3m 30s?]
Physically / motivationally spent thereafter but still crawled in for a reasonable result (and first in an ultra competitive M35L!)
Enjoyed event, but seemed planning must have been restricted by not having any controls on dead trees. Control total was only 66 vs 107 six years ago (!) This was particularly evident on controls in the enclosures with high control loads, conflicting attack angles and even some exact reverse legs (compare C1 #20-#23 with C2 #12-#15) - wonder whether it was the RSPB or an event official who decided that trees couldn't be used?
