Running (Road) 46:23 [3] 5.0 mi (9:17 / mi)

It was a gray day, but not ver cold. I went down to Lee Drive, through the Fredericksburg Battlefield to run this interval session. I like Lee Drive because it is mostly flat, with one killer hill at the very beginning (and end!) of an out-and-back. It's also nice because you can imagine the troops as you are running, looking at the trenches that are still very visible, and think what it was like to crouch behind one of the them, waiting for the enemy.

Anyway, this was a very fun, and rewarding, workout. I started with a warm-up (up and over the hill, locally known as "Bubba"), then ran 3 sets of 6:00 fast/2:00 easy. I like doing intervals because it teaches my legs how to turn over faster and to get used to it. I felt good doing them, next time I'll try to go even faster. I ended with a cool down.

And then off to Costco for some industrial sized shopping!

Swimming 45:00 [2]

I've decided to work from home today, so I could sleep in a little before going to swim. Also, it was a standard "help Tanner finish his homework" morning. Plus, it was just a yucky day...perfect for a non-commute day.

Today was a swimming workout. It was fairly easy. I worked on kicking (250 m) and swimming with pull bouys and paddles. Using the buoys is actually my favorite swim workout. I feel like I'm going so fast without a lot of work.

I finished up with 4 sets of 5x50, mixing in alternate strokes with free strokes. My coach is working on having everyone train with alternate strokes this winter (breast, back, etc.) to build strength in different muscles. And to alleviate boredom. However, I have yet to master the butterfly!

Cycling (Trainer) 49:59 [2] 15.0 mi (18.0 mph)

I took Monday off and went to swim yesterday, but the pool was packed...so another day off. I'll do two workouts on one of the weekend days to make up for it.

The workout today was good..actually much better than my last trainer sessions. It was fairly easy to complete the 15 miles, with a sprint during the last mile. I'm looking forward to an outdoors ride this Saturday. Although I do love watching the "Today" show while riding (love that Matt Lauer!), it is much better to be otutside. I even bought shoe booties and a skull cap to keep warmer...hope springs eternal!
