Finland!
Spent a very uncomfortable night in the Helsinki airport waiting for Ken to arrive this morning, then drove with him to Imatra to meet the rest of the team.
We got checked in, then went out on the model map (see biggins log). Not much snow, but a lot of fun zooming around on things.

I had my first experience with a team officials meeting, which was about as chaotic as I have been led to expect. Not totally impressed with the organization of information and presentation. We can do better.

Forgot my ant stick, so tracks will come later.

Finished with the HLES. So much good info and sessions, but its going to take me a while to digest my thoughts and try and write them down. Most of the weekend is spent just ingesting as much info as possible, and today was a very useful set of group work sessions, where my group was working on the overall high level planning process for a WOC, in terms of structuring an event plan for when and what each functional block of the event was going to have to have ready at each milestone.

Jay Hann from BAOC was also at the event with me, which was great. Its interesting to watch someone else have no clue about how much they don't know, and then to realize you were in that position not that long ago. We need to find ways to expose a lot more US event organizers to the IOF/European approach to event organization and planning.

Now I'm in the Copenhagen airport (another mall pretending to be an airport) on my way to Finland for ski-o!

Note

I'm so far behind in my AP log. Haven't downloaded the Garmin in a month.
I've also been really grumpy about some O things lately, mostly driven by how happy I've been timing ski races. The ski community does such a great job of event production, consistent standards and documentation, and making everyone want to be part of the team. We have a lot we could learn from them.
But I'm off to Warsaw for the HLES tonight, so time to get rid of the grump and have some fun and learn a ton. Many thanks to all of my supporters who are making this trip possible.
