First terrain orienteering "race" since June. Not sure how I would get on but only running green and confident I would be able to walk around if necessary.
Managed some running, though not quick and generally downhill, or where there was water. Resolved to get wet early on so I wouldn't feel the need to keep my feet dry and opportunity arose within 50m of the start.
Didn't like the look of terrain straight line to 1 so went up then down. Hadn't expected it to be so easy to find. Long way around on 4 as didn't want to cross too many contours and tire out so early on. Route into 4 from SE was always going to be a bit rough but made it through. Worst was crossing the gully as the rocks were all very slippery.
Only mistake on 5 as distracted by person on other course, and didn't trust Vanessa to be going the right way to my control! Quite a lot of walking out from this even though terrain better - uphill. Good line though for the path I was aiming for.
Crossed the valley 7-8 about 50m north of where I had wanted to, but knew as I was doing it. Meant more time in the rough going around to control. Very surprised to catch Reuben here as he passed me at 1 and I'd not seen him since 3.
Last section was pretty rough with lots of sharp ups and downs so I had to walk most of it. Reuben passed for final time after 10, having jumped onto the Brown train that shared most of our controls. I had a big slide on wet slope so not able to keep up - and had to find 14 for myself - which I did quickly, but didn't look like what I expected it to be so took a while to commit to going for it. Final section along path was fun as was quite wet so good opportunity to run throw and splash (even) slower people.
A bit disappointed to miss the hour, but beaten only by Reuben on the course is pretty good. And as he messed up 8 by so much, makes my time look a lot better than it was.
