A very brief warm up in the quarantine area trying to stay in the shade a lot. It didn't seem like a good idea to wear myself out too much in the sun, but in retrospect I probably should have gone with a normal (much longer) sprint race warmup.

The good news is that I was way less nervous for this race than I was for the first race of last year's TT. There isn't really bad news, just eh. I was a bit hesitant with my choice for the first control (right and up the stairs) because I wan't to make sure I was reading the levels correctly. This whole two planes thing is tricky. I bounded up the stairs and, well, that wasn't very good because then my legs stiffened up. Definitely should have done more rigorous uphills during my warmup. Am I getting old? I mean, seriously. Ridiculous.
Also went right to 2, which was perhaps suboptimal. Missed the hedge gap going into 3 (took it going out), though fine to 4 and 5. Ali was catching up, already! Six was a long leg and I took the left tunnel and went by the finish. I think that was all right, as Ali (who went way around to the right) punched not too much before I did. Seven was short, then I hesitated while in the tunnel to 8. I though, "oh no, I've passed it!" but actually it was above me and I still had to take the stairs. There I go again with the two planes issue.
Took a left route to 9, which again I think is suboptimal. Fine to 10 (through the tunnel) but I actually went behind the wall for 11 (over the wall to get out) when I really could have just punched over it. Nothing left for 12-finish.
Overall it was okay - no major issues, just some hesitations and questionable as to whether the routes were the best, but nothing terribly obviously poor. Main issue was that I just couldn't run fast. I remembered how hard I was able to go at the BAOC meet last month and I was not able to do that today. I guess that figures based on my recent training (what training?).
Anyway, looking forward to some woods.

Melissa and I were being productive at home and so decided to just run around the golf course rather than go to Maynards. A very pleasant evening jog, low 80s out, and of course brilliant conversation.
All week I am attending the Transition Assistance Program seminar, where I am supposed to learn how to survive in the civilian world. They're so serious about this civilian adjustment stuff that we even get to wear civvies all week! Today I learned that nobody cares what rank I attained (duh), and that nobody understands our acronyms (nfw!), and that I have to wear a dress or, possibly, a skirt in order to get a job (srsly?).
So it's mostly about how to get a job, which is something that I will want to have eventually. The briefers repeatedly said that we should tell everybody we know (and lots of people we don't know) that we are looking for work. So, here I am, telling lots of people that I want a job. Eventually. In Oslo. But no rush. I need some funemployment first. But if you know someone who needs a research assistant, or a program manager, or a GIS person, or a programmer, or a trumpet player... in Oslo... in, say, September or October or, perhaps, next March... Well, please pass the word. :-)
