Hike 1:30:00 [1]
shoes: 2011 Merrell Trail Glove

Walk to the Indian Council Rocks from LeGeyt Road with Rhonda, Zack, Sassy, and our German guests Heike and her mother Jutta. Heike was our exchange student in '98-'99, and here for a visit after not being in touch at all for so many years. We were a little unsure as to how this would work out, but they are quite pleasant.

We hadn't walked in from this direction in quite a few years, and we were amazed at the wide, well-maintained road the MDC has put in, at least in part for some logging they did, but not sure what else they may have in mind. This road used to be quite eroded, and a little dicey for even walking on and now it is very broad and firm with grassy margins and a number of rather inscrutable signs facing in all directions. Perhaps the most inscrutable was one on a tree facing so that you would see it from the forest, and see only the back of it from the new road. It said something to the effect that this was a public road for the purpose of a deer hunt, and that no unauthorized vehicles should go beyond that point. Not sure what an unauthorized vehicle might be doing in the forest coming up to that sign, and a little confused about the combination of the phrase public road with the admonition to stay out. There were some other rather perplexing ones.

Gym 40:00 [1]

piggybacking on part of a workout Rhonda and Lindsay were doing in the gym.

They were doing 5 rounds:
5 minutes on stationary bike (check)
5 pushups (not for me, shoulder tendinitis still a problem)
15 russian twists with medicne ball (check)
20 air squats (3 gentle ones for me)

Then there were a few other things to try - a few GHD situps and a few glute ham raises, a failed headstand. Mostly just keeping them company

Nice visit with Dennis and Louise before they left to head home.

The adductor strain is pretty painful today, and I expect to be shutting down any running or orienteering for the next month or so to try to get it to calm down. Not sure what I am going to be doing instead, as I'm pretty sure I can't row with it, so maybe I will have to make a trip to the swimming pool. Not my favorite activity.

NAOC Brown X Sprint on Dartmouth Campus. Felt quite good warming up, running well and without incident. Then at the very start, first step of the race I re-strained the R adductor, up high near the groin, and that was that, so shuffle-jogged around the course. Still fun to go, but it would have been really fun to run it. Three relatively small errors, left 7 the wrong way for about 5 steps before turning, went around the building to the left instead of to the right going to 10, and then, more or less inexplicably, went up on the road to the top of the stairs at 12 instead of below on the grass to the bottom, even though I was telling myself to go below. Strange. No other problems. I expect to lie low for quite a long time now to try to get this leg to improve.

Map and route.
