On the bike path from Simsbury to Westfield with Rhonda, the birthday girl, and Zack, Cindy and Lindsay. Lindsay and Zack way off the front. Went ok for about 10 miles or so, but a lot of my left side problems came creeping back, one by one. With about six miles left I bailed out, had them pick me up. Kind of a circus, particularly at the Simsbury end. Lots of people, some walking some riding, some paying attention, some not. On the way out I barely dodged a guy coming the other way who was taking a sharp blind turn way too fast. Rhonda was not far behind me at that point, and had a good view of him wiping out. Near the end, Lindsay got sabotaged by a kid zipping across the path and took a tumble. Fortunately not hurt. A highlight was a couple of guys on 36" unicycles, making good time.

Rhonda's good idea - long walk around the neighborhood. Heels sore from friction on the downhills. Otherwise ok, if a bit hard.

Around the neighborhood with Rhonda, some roads, some exploration off road. Came upon a very fancy new house being built well into the woods, apparently by the local land baron. Long driveway, now crushed stone, but formerly an old woods road.

In the spirit of the recent GPS conversation on PG's log, the S and F on my FR track should have been the same. F is right, S is off by a few hundred meters. The track finally sorted itself out around the 11 minute mark, and looks more or less ok from there on.

Pretty hard. Taking it a bit easy to ease back into it. Started with an 800M indian run, then 10-8-5 deadlifts (gingerly, just working up to 125#), then nominally 10X7 of burpees and knees-to-elbows. Cut it short at six rounds in the interest of not killing myself.

Did something unusual today. Zack and I played nine holes at Simsbury Farms. My first time in 2013, and maybe the first time Zack and I have played together since Canton Public Golf Course was still around. 10 years or so. The result - my back is a little tender. Golf went mostly better than I expected. 50 for the 9 holes, but that included a 12 on a hole where I sent my first 2 drives OB, hitting my 5th shot from the tee. On the positive side, three pars, and a nice time with my young man. We met a couple of nice gentlemen from Simsbury, much better golfers, fine company.

Around the neighborhood with Rhonda, down Barbourtown and back up Bunker Hill. Keeping a brisk pace. It's quite hilly here, but nothing like the walk to the start at the long qualifier races in San Sicario last week.

Thought I might try 5K, but it was soon apparent that I was too tired and my arms too weak for it, so stopped at 2. Takes a while to build back up, and I've done nothing for my upper body in the last 3 weeks (not that I was doing that much before).

Travel day. Stayed in a small local hotel in Sempione last night near the airport in Milan. Nice restaurant in the hotel. Our last Italian dinner was a good one. I had scialatielli with porcini and Rhonda had paccheri with monkfish and shrimp. Two shapses of pasta that were new to me. The shrimp, like all the shrimp we had, were large, served with the heads on, looking like little lobsters. Left Milan at 10:25, arrived at JFK at 2, home at 5:30. A bit woozy with jet lag.
