Hike 25:00 [3] 1.3 mi (19:14 / mi)
slept:4.0 weight:170lbs

Dog walk with R&S. Feeling a bit bloated. Pain not bad. Nice side effect is that my hamstring feels much better from the Percocet.
11 AM

Hike 1:13:37 [0] 3.64 mi (20:13 / mi) +187m 17:26 / mi

Stroll around People's State Forest with R&S. Nice day.

Hike 25:00 [3] 1.3 mi (19:14 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:163lbs

Dog walk with R&S, cousin Matt and my son Charles. Charles determined to keep up, breathing hard, but doing much better than anticipated.
8 AM

Note

Off to Farmington Surgery Center with the lovely Rhonda to take care of me. Vitals and IV, 99% oxygen, 54 pulse, BP a bit elevated at 140/86. And then a stroll into the OR, and soon that's the last I know of it for a while. Dr. Beebe comes in to tell me about it after. Quite a large tear, had to be secured in three spots. He wants me to move it, but not under any kind of load. Logging on AP might be the extent of what is appropriate now. I will go see him on Monday for the next evaluation.

Then home around 1:30, stopping at the pharmacy for a stash of Percocet. Doesn't hurt much, feel a trifle nauseated, but not all that bad. Very nice to have my belated breakfast. Very well ministered to by the lovely Rhonda.
4 PM

Hike 30:00 [3] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

several rounds of the so-called hospital loop with Rhonda and Sassy. Walking is very comfortable, particularly with a little pain meds smoothing out the hamstring. A very fine late afternoon, and just kept going another loop at a time.

My shoulder is not particularly uncomfortable, considering. I am to move it, but not use it. Moving it is a bit more uncomfortable than keeping it still, but not excruciating, and certainly not moving it much at this juncture.
6 PM

Hike 7:00 [3] 0.55 km (12:44 / km)

one more loop with Zack, in the moonlight. Very pleasant.

Helping out my neighbor Matt with some digging.
4 PM

Hike 25:00 [3] 1.3 mi (19:14 / mi)

another nice dog walk, this time with Zack
7 PM

Note

Very enjoyable but brief visit from PG and Gail, on their way back from Thanksgiving with Peter's cousin and family, and a stop in Litchfield. Very nice to see them, always the best part of a holiday gathering. Entertaining stories.

Gym 1:00:00 [3]
slept:8.5 weight:162lbs

Rhonda's morning class. Last one for me for a while.
12 PM

Note

Spent most of the afternoon at my neighbor Matt's house with my backhoe. He is making a flat area on the hillside to accommodate a play set for his young daughters. Digging out some big boulders for a retaining wall, and then digging and filling. Made my back and neck hurt.

A couple of dog walks, but mostly just taking it easy. Had a massage today. Always feel pretty mellow after that.

Blue Hills Traverse. Nice day in the Blue Hills, and a relatively friendly course design compared to some prior ones, with many trail opportunities. I ran the whole race with Earl, who was excellent company, and who bailed me out a couple of times when I was about to go wrong. Earl also did the large scale route choice. I took a hard fall just before 18, hurting my sore shoulder and jamming my thumb, and I was a bit disconcerted for a while. 19 was the only control with significant potential for time loss, and we lost our focus going up the hill toward it for a while. Figured it out from the trail, though and spiked it, apparently picking up 9 places. Other than that, a pretty steady if slow pace, nursing a very sore hamstring. A very nice day in the Blue Hills, and an enjoyable ride up and back with Clint and Earl, Clint driving.

Map and route - East and West.
