Orienteering race 1:20:00 [4]
shoes: Nike Lunar Trainer

Park World Tour Final, Perth city centre. Probably my first really city sprint, with little back alleys and whatnot. But, it was more straightforward than expected, I had no major crises. This was merely an example of me needing to run faster. I was still relatively pleased with my result, though, Osterbo started 2 minutes behind me, he didn't catch me, and he won.

I ended up 1:56 back, which is actually the exact time I was behind at WOC qualification, which got me 21st place. I'm not sure how to read into that, as a good sign, a bad sign, or a non sign. Zsolt, who qualified 15th at WOC in my head, was over a minute ahead today, while he beat me by 49 seconds to get the last spot at WOC.

Either way, I'm going to need to drop my running speed. Sub-16 5k by next summer? That could be a stretch, but if i'm England all winter, there will be far more running than skiing. Could probably ditch some of this fat around the mid-section too......

Orienteering 1:00:00 [5]
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Park World Tour Prologue at Scone Palace. I had the worst split to number one, because I didn't look behind the tree. I was in the right place, and I just plain ol' didn't see it, so I went back to the path, and tried again, and yep, I was definitely in the right place, but these were big trees, and I just didn't run completely around to see it in a little alcove. Eventually I saw it through a bush. In my defense, the control description said the South side, and it was clearly on the north side (or vice versa, I don't have the map in front of me).

On the whole, the rest went okay, lots of people had issues on Number 2, which I did okay on. I also nearly tripped on some unmarked barbed wire fence, which tore up some of my favorite socks... its a good thing I have two more pairs of them at home.... If I hadn't buggered up number 1 I would've beaten Osterbo, which would have been glorious.

Running 50:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony FastTwitch

Did a short warm-up followed by 25 minute cruise run. I guess 'cruise' is actually the same as 'foundation' from way back. You know, I used to do 50 minute runs like that. Jeepers, what happened?

Running 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Karhu Fast Ride

15 x 30 seconds w/60 seconds. Supposed to be 30, but opted to a little shorter in case the lungs weren't 100%, which they weren't. Legs felt okay, though, despite the Triglav on Monday and lots of nothing on Tuesday.

Note

Lengthy travel day + class = no training today. Oh well.

Note

Not technically training, in my opinion, but I think I'm finally almost completely over my lung infection, just a light cough remaining, so hit up Mt. Triglav in Slovenia with the guys the day after WMRC. Guidebooks suggested ascending in 6, but with some light jogging and purposeful hiking we did it in 4, and down in another 4.

I imagine it would be a pretty sweet view, but it was so foggy we could see much further than 20 metres ahead of us. Bit of a bummer, but still fun. Will take tomorrow's travel day and one more day off until Wednesday and hammering out some intervals. No training for three weeks, and PWT this weekend... this may not go well! We'll call it an extended taper.
