Orienteering 1:27:00 [3] ** 4.8 km (18:07 / km) +260m 14:16 / km

Rogaine, Maungakawa. Set myself a 90 minute limit (instead of the 2 hours) - there was probably one more control I could've got and stayed within or close to that. Cattle country so hard to get a consistent run on, but there'd been a bit of a big night beforehand so I might have struggled in that respect even if it had been all perfectly groomed and mown parkland... :-/

Run warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Warm down - a 5 minute warmdown almost immediately after finishing, then went out for an intended jog to collect few controls. That took way more than 10 minutes but most of that was walking as the legs had kind of seized in the interim, making even jogging seem a bit too big an ask.

Run 53:00 [3]

Had a 40-45 minute run in mind. Good thing once I got ticking over properly was feeling better than I did right off the start, as my estimation of how much ground I would cover in that time was a bit off apparently. From home, over to Porritt with a semi-loop there, then across to near Fairfield College, Brooklands park, through the bush, then a directish route home. I don't know how Hamilton does it but when it's at all windy here there seems to be a head wind in whatever direction I go... but other than that small complaint, it was a Nice Run.

Orienteering 43:35 [4] ** 6.2 km (7:02 / km)

Urban rogaine. Despite having a sneak preview of the map as series co-ordinator I think I still made a bit of a tactical mess - avoided a control-rich but seemingly distant part of the map as I thought to get in there would mean missing the bonus point window, so ended up instead spending the last 15+ minutes covering some large distances for a measly 5 controls. Realised afterwards that (A) judging by the results plenty of people managed to get at least partway into the area I avoided and still fit in the bonus points; and (B) there were 7 controls in that corner so sacrificing the 5 on offer at the event centre might have been a good tactic. (This will make no sense to anyone yet to experience an OWaikato urban rogaine under current rules)

Blowing hard by the end and a bit of high calf muscle soreness. Probably rest of the week will be just resting and stretching so hopefully that will take care of that.

Run race 24:49 [5] 5.0 km (4:58 / km)

Eastside 5km. First time intentionally pushing hard this year, and first time under 25 mins. Might have been a bit quicker but got boxed in more than ever over the first half k (time to stop hiding at the back at the start!) and while I think I was sub 20 just at the 4km mark, couldn't find any extra push for the last bit. Still need to find another minute before I can start thinking about pb's, could be hard work though!

Run warm up/down 5:00 [3]

Warm-down. My warm-up consisted of walking from town increasingly faster while keeping an eye out for taxis (none appeared) - I was certain I was going to be late!
