Orienteering 31:00 [3] *** 4.0 km (7:45 / km) +76m 7:05 / km
spiked:14/16c

Last of the summer series, Hamilton Lake, though just the north shore so no long left or right legs across the lake (so all my study beforehand trying to figure out what would be the best choice from various points was for nothing), instead lots of zigzagging around the domain - vertically as well as horizontally with several trips up to Ruakiwi Road ridgeline then back down to the lake. Not surprisingly I ran out of steam by the time the last big climb was over. Farted round a bit at number 2, somehow decided going through the bush was better than attacking it from the open which might have worked had there not been several nearly-tracks around the one on the map, and coming through the same area right at the end (14-15) took the straightish route choice which was good, but really should have simplified and just charged down & relocated at the bottom of the hill rather than trying to carefully navigate down. Also a couple of nearly mistakes, one of which would have seen me leave the map, but caught myself in time. All in all not really switched on mentally or physically but still happy overall with the run.

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [2] **

...or thereabouts timewise. Jogged out to collect some controls - after about 5 steps thought it would have to be a walk but then got into a nice jog and will hopefully feel the better for it tomorrow. 6 controls was just the right number to still be able to trot along quite comfortably with. Navigation was nice and easy at this speed but I still managed to take a slightly silly route choice at one point!
