Running 1:17:42 intensity: (54:17 @2) + (16:40 @4) + (6:45 @5) 17.53 km (4:26 / km) +120m 4:17 / km

Had an alarm for 7 to do parkrun at 8. Woke up at 6:50 turned off alarm as not to wake Laura then fell back asleep. Had a dream about being at parkrun then woke up at 7:30 went oh shit I'm not at parkrun. Quick change and out the door 5min later and at the start with 5min to go feeling a bit groggy.
Tempo parkrun in 16:40. Just followed a guy for first 2.5 then led him until 4k then he dropped off.
Over to Hutt Rec where there is a really nice grass track to do 6x400 (90). Was quite slippy so moved to lane 9 after the first rep to do less bends.
Then stumbled home with some shaky quads to eat and drink as was very hungry dehydrated.
Good morning of training

Long run from Laura's. Anti-clockwise round Belmont dress circle then up and down some mountain bike tracks before investigating more of the bush track.

Was very hot out and I didn't take anything with me. Struggling a little but generally feeling fairly good. Took it all quite easy though.

4 hour round of golf. My first 3 drives ever were incredible. Then it went downhill. Luckily I was so bad I managed to clear the highway instead of hitting the cars.

Adventure on Tongariro.
Started up the main tourist track which was heaving so was constantly saying excuse me thank you for the first 40min. Then turned off the main track and joined a few less people going up Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom to LOTR fans). This was just really loose scree and it was hard to move up along with a shout every 5min as a big rock comes falling down from above. This resulted in what I believe to be my slowest km in a run (31min). Amazing at the top with a crater and warm underfoot as it is an active volcano.
Someone asked me at the top how long it took me to run up. I thought I recognised them and after a couple of questions to check my theory was correct. It was Gernot Kerschbaumer. What are the odds. They were just walking the crossing so after a quick chat I did a lap of the crater and went down the other side of the hill so had it all to myself. What followed was a long incredible scree descent. So much fun. Had to stop at the bottom to empty my shoes.
Then back on the main track for a bit before heading around a lake up a steep climb and to the moon (this rocky plateau without anybody else in sight). The running become next to impossible now and was just clambering through jagged volcanic rock and slowly made it up Tongariro.
Laura had told me of this nice path off the top but I was in cloud at this point so missed the track and just had to slide/scramble slowly down and hit some cliffs I had to try and find a way around. Finally down to the track and was full of running so flew back down the main track which was next to empty by this point.

A totally new experience. The volcanic terrain is just like nothing I have ever seen before. No wonder hundreds of people do the crossing everyday.

15x400(45) with 2min off after 10. Found this grass track which was a bit overgrown but could still see the markings. Very tired from the off but didn't slow down too much. The rain came which made it a bit slippy then the thunder came and I got excited and finished well.
Finished my last rep and collapsed and was lying on my back as a fork of lightning split the sky. Pretty cool. Finished WD from the house.

Cross Training 1:58:13 [0]

Went mountain biking with Laura in Rotorua. Super hot, bike was stuck in a low gear so was working hard on the flat bits, spinning fast to keep up with Laura. Really awesome tracks and forest. Got a bit too brave at the end and went on a harder track and crashed right at the bottom.

From Aratiatia falls up the river to Huka falls where Laura joined me and then down to the park in Taupo. Very hot today and was struggling in the open but moving at a good clip.
6 PM

Threshold along a riverside trail. Was perfect as was undulating and windy but not overly so. Interesting pushing on boardwalks. Had to get my F1 lines in as if I went too fast I would miss the edge of the boardwalk and end up in some green sludge.
10,8,6,4,2 with (1/5th) recovery. The 4 was pretty hard and the 2 was nearly all uphill and go the lactic flowing nicely.

Up in Hawkes Bay and went for a run up and around Te Mata peak. The best run so far. Amazing single track in the woods including a section of Redwoods. Then cool limestone crags in the open. Struggling a bit up and smashing all the downhills as it was so much fun.

Running 1:20:54 [2] 15.78 km (5:08 / km) +460m 4:29 / km

Some genius made a track just traversing this steep 200m escarpment between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki alongside the sea. Great fun. All single track with plenty of steps up and down and some swing bridges. Ran with Bill Edwards.
Then meant to make it up to 2 hours in the sand dunes but was feeling very tired so just did a little sprint instead and ate some Lunch.
Got home and slept. Jetlag is catching me up.

WU-Mile Race (not with Garmin)-Tempo-WD

In the B race and some guy sprinted off so I went behind him on the inside as didn't want to take the wind then he pretty much stopped and so first lap was so slow and I was stuck. Managed to escape in a group of 3 but then they slowed so went to the front at 800m and tried to just push on. Was quite tough then a guy got past me with 100 to go but I had enough left and put in a pretty good last kick.

Won $75 dollars which makes up for not being in the A race. I feel quite guilty winning it as I don't really believe in prizes for B races cause there are people in A race who may have been better and get nothing. Not guilty enough to give it back though :)
The A race only went 5 seconds quicker and better paced so may have even been in contention in that race.

Followed by a hilly tempo. I thought the track was a bit windy but I got up the hill a bit and it was crazy. Good fun though.

New Zealand :) Got a bit of everything today from awesome single track in the bush and then open hilly farmland with lots of sheep.
This was about two hours after getting off the plane and surprisingly felt very good. Kept the pace super easy though. With John (Laura's Dad) for about half of it.

I left my house and 25min later got to the gym. I made it five metres out the door and realised there was a fire somewhere cause it stank. It was in one of the big rubbish bins. So called the fire brigade and then ran upstairs to get some water. By the time I got back outside it had burned through the top of the bin and was huge so I just stood back and watched till the fireman arrived.
Very exciting.
One guy in a hoodie just walked past it very nonchalantly considering there was a massive fire. He is my prime suspect.

First time I have called the emergency services legitimately (Being locked out of Peter's house being the only other time).
