Running 1:05:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:25 / km)

Found some snow today though! Ran up Camel's Hump from Mountain Creek carpark. Never seen so much snow on the ranges on the drive out there, so got quite excited. Halfway up I passed the last of the walkers so I was into virgin snow. Only an inch or so mind, but still pretty enough. The scramble up to the summit cairn was a bit hairy.

Cold, wet, ming day. Half expecting snow on the top of Taylor it was that cold, but no such luck. Did Taylor and Farrer.

Now that rest days are becoming as frequent as this, I may have to drop my protocol of putting something against each day.

Running 50:00 [3] 11.0 km (4:33 / km)

Up pretty early with the time zone change despite watching the Aussies lose in the footy in the night. Along the river then back through King's Park. Not many folk about - hope it wasn't cos they thought it was cold or anything as it was a beautiful sunny morning (although it was cold admittedly).

Orienteering race (State League) 55:30 [5] 10.5 km (5:17 / km)

At Yankee Jacks Hill near Collector. Fun terrain - typical runnable spur gully, but with a cool area of scattered granite that we dipped into a couple of times. Beautiful sunny day as well. Had a good run with only a couple of minor hesitations. Felt pretty good running, although suspect I've lost a few minutes of fitness recently. Anyway, ended up winning by about 20mins, which was actually very disappointing. Bit surprising that every single male cockatoo, white or black, had better things to do today...

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 1.0 km (5:00 / km)

Running 1:23:00 [3] 16.0 km (5:11 / km)

A disappointing start to the day with England losing to Italy, but cheered myself up with a cracker of a run from home. 10mins across the burbs to the foot of Isaacs, then followed the ridge all the way home via the tops of Isaacs, Wanniassa, Farrer and Taylor. Pretty screwed by the time I got to the top of Taylor. Then watched some Jukola on the internet - good coverage but orienteering just isn't a great spectator sport. Maybe if they put some artificial fences in the forest...

Running long 1:58:00 [3] 25.0 km (4:43 / km)

Long run with Gareth and Scott, starting from Gareth's house. Bloody freezing (literally) as we set off along the Murrumbidgee towards Kambah Pool. Once on the road there it warmed up a bit and turned into a cracking sunny morning. Scott peeled off at Cooleman Ridge after 80mins, at which point I asked Gareth how long we were going to be running for. He said 20km-ish, so I said that was good as it would be less than 2 hours to which he assured me it definitely would. He then seemed to put the foot down and we ended up hammering it back to his house and got back in 1:58, so I guess he was right. Good to do a long good-paced run.

Did some gardening in the afternoon - trimmed a few bushes and did some weeding. Also exterminated a nest of redbacks that I'd discovered in the garage and snipped off some bees nests hanging from the roof of our carport.

Orienteering race (ACT State League) 1:31:41 [4] 14.0 km (6:33 / km)

On a brand new map of Isaacs Ridge. Brilliant piece of mapping from Hugh and a great area - really enjoyed myself. Amazing that it hadn't been mapped properly til now - certainly championship terrain and literally on the edge of town (10min run from home for me). Pretty tough going with some steep climbs and a few stony areas which all added to the challenge of technical orienteering among rocks and subtle vegetation features. The course itself was a longun at 12.2km with, I make it, 740m climb. I had quite a good run, just about (but not quite) managing to run the whole way, and only made a handful of small wobbles.
