Swapped tomorrows rest day with todays 14 miler, couldn’t be bothered to do a long run around lboro when I would be back in peaks tomorrow. Still ill, but body is thankful for the rest. Watched a bike race around lboro campus with Megs and ate a double 99 flake. Speedy people, but seemed very serious. Good ice cream though.

Not racing today. Never missed a race because of illness. Feels annoying and FOMOy, but Meg made a good point last night that ‘fitness doesn’t matter if you’re not healthy.’ Very coachy words from an art student. But makes sense.
Anyway went on a ride on the single speed this morning. Spot on weather. Shredding the gnar and all that as normal. Went Cross Keys with grandad, Mary and fly after for chips.

Broc hill/brocton loop. Hot, humid and lots of saying ‘hi’ to magpies…
A pretty enough run other than feeling very prough, sweating a lot, legs a bit heavy and having a high heart rate. Again. Meant to be racing tomorrow (batch bash), but feel like I have been battering my self with illness after illness lately, so maybe should rest. Though I do love it as a race. It’s a constant dilemma I seem to be making lately, should I race and just put up with the cold, seeing I have spent money on the race and will just have fun, or recover and be better for the next one, but loose the money spent on entry (3peaks was £35, or a full weekly shop of food and didn’t even get round it because I was ill! Same with this weekend, but £25.) Just feels like I’m constantly making the same excuse after every race and poor performance. I know I have the fitness there and feel in great form, just feels like it’s masked with cold and illness every time. Very annoying and frustrating, feels better to rant it out though.

Heat stroke and ill. Not fun. Not as bad as last year as was only a bit sick, must be learning. Maybe next year I will get heat stroke and not be sick at all.

Howden anti-clockwise 8*5 min (2 min float). Felt pretty mint today even after having a stressful afternoon. In the speedy S-labs with calf’s surprisingly not too destroyed by the end. Cold is better, just coughing without the nastiness. Weather was perfect. Couldn’t have been much better and only two cars. Perfection in a session.
Last day on placement in the school with sports days tomorrow and Friday. Sad to go, have enjoyed it. Maybe I will go into teaching one day.

Just felt like going for a run in the sun. Busy down by the river, but enjoyable nevertheless. Legs feel fine, throat is a bit grim. Did some drills at the end of run.

Fairfield. Was 50/50 on if to race. Had a lot of gunk in throat and was feeling pretty rough going into it, (the usual excuses) so wasn’t expecting much. Started out fairly hard keeping with Woodley and Nog till Nab Scar then let them go. Ran ok to Fairfield with Alex constantly getting closer then pulling away on the descents. Was about 20m from him going up Fairfield, but he was out of sight by the time I was at summit. Descending was poor, but tried to stay focused. Caught Alex on the fast track before getting some good encouragement from Rhys and Megs to take some more places along the track before the finish.
Stayed in the Lakes till evening with a picnic with Megs by Thirlmere and Chips next to Windermere. Quality!
Really nice race and pleased with how I did. Frustrated with not being healthy for it, but talked to Jack Agnew after who said it’s just life teaching primary kids and you get ill a lot. Annoying, but fair enough. Duddon next I think.

With Megs around Beacon Hill and the canal. Had the most watered down Coke I have ever had at The Boat, though brought some chips from new chippy after which tasted pretty good. Nice ride.
