Warm up jog from accommodation. Uni athletics trial. Messed up the laps on my watch a bit, but it was 3min, 2, 1 x2 with 90s rest and 3minute between sets all at sub 4:50/mi Felt really rough, but still the fastest there. Talked to some of the Hallamshire runners so will try and join some of their sessions. Need to get over this cold before full training again and going to gym Monday. Walk back to accommodation.

First solo run out of the city. Enjoyed it, but felt pretty rough from freshers flu. Hopefully ok for Monday and starting properly training again. Conditions were pretty cold still. Legs feel quite strong though.

Home-Longshaw-Hathersage-Stanage-Home (Skipped Ladybower.) Can understand why people say it’s grim up north! Wetted through two coats, borderline hypothermic and 5m visibility from the top of Stanage Pole! Still enjoyed it a lot and the Joe Marler Podcast definitely helped distract from the cold.

Note

Time to start training again and get back on attackpoint. Had a good season getting 4th mu23 at English champs, 15:32 5k and 8:54 3k along with some other good results like Clough Head and Ragleth. But it’s clear that I peaked around April then started to drop off until Mid Cheshire, then dropping again until now. Some serious lessons learnt for this year though.
1. Split the year into winter and summer rather than training from October-September.
2. Strength work!
3. Long days out in the hills (should be easier living in Sheffield now.
4. Too many outcome goals. Going to focus on performance goals for road (sub 15 5k, sub 31 10k, sub 69 half) and process goals for Xc and fell (better descending and general strength.)
Feel good for the new year and will be good to see what happens.
**later November note. Diet.
