I took an annual leave day so I could drop Daisy off at school on her first day of Kindy, and pick her up. And Florence wasn’t due back at school for another day. We were going to go for a bike ride together (I know!) but it rained pretty much all day so instead I took both girls to the indoor pool in the arvo (no swimming for me of course! Water isn’t my thing).

From the Namadgi Visitors Centre towards Booroomba Rocks carpark and back on the Australian Alps Walking Trail. I turned around 1-2 km shy of the carpark as it would have taken too long to get there on this occasion. It had rained in the morning, all the vegetation was wet and it was cloudy but there were only patches of drizzle for my run. Lots of lovely bush scents!

Around Lake Tuggeranong with 8min tempo (2min rec), 5 x 2min (1min), 5min tempo. All of this felt really hard, even the warm up and down which was a crawl. Wasn't up for it today.

From home to the top of Mt Taylor via the main concrete path. There I spotted the gang nearing the top of the zig-zag path, escorting Isabelle on her Mt Taylor Challenge. Florence and Daisy had both walked up Mt Taylor when they were two-years-old and now it was Isabelle’s turn. She ran the final bit to the trig point!
I said my goodbyes and ran down the western rocky path (nearly stepping on a snake!) and then across to Oakey Hill where I did a loop and came back around the edge of Mt Taylor. Fairly out of energy by the end.

Watched the national cross-country trials at Stromlo at 7am, then the rest of the day was busy unpacking/washing, Florence had a birthday party to go to and in the end I didn't have the energy to run.

St Columba Falls then Cash's Gorge Circuit & Ralph Falls Track. We did a very similar day 8 years ago when Florence was 6mths old and we were catching the boat in the evening! This time, after driving through Ringarooma and Scottsdale we went a scenic way to Devonport via Lilydale.

Oceania Relays on The Argonaut.
In an AUS team with Aislinn and Lanita. It was a great team effort - Aislinn and Lanita both had very good runs, setting me off in the lead and with a sizable margin over the NZers. Lizzie narrowed the gap but I was still in the clear and we took the win.
Personally, I started my run agressively as had Emily close by up until c7 but then we had slightly different controls after that and I got away. There were a couple of quite tricky controls (in the errosion detail) in the second half and a few vague ones too - I slowed a bit as you only have the race to lose when you're out in front and I didn't want to blow it. Got a bit confused at c16 and c18 for some reason but made it back ok.

Oceania Middle Champs on Hunt Tin Mine, another new map.
This was a really fun course! Fairly runnable with lots of great mining detail and well mapped. I was happy to have a pretty clean run in a pressure situation. I lost concentration once or twice (c14), a bit off on a couple (c8 and c13) but generally accurate and pushed hard at the end. Finished 2nd, 2.07 down on Lizzie. Could maybe push harder on open/longer legs next time to improve.

Oceania Long Champs at Bells Marsh, a new map.
I was mostly happy with this run except for c13 where I lost 5+ minutes. This was due to a combination of factors and meant I circled the hillside a couple of times looking for the wrong sort of feature. I was annoyed at losing so much time and thought it would cost places but in the end it didn't, I finished 2nd but a long way down on Lizzie who smashed it. It was useful to see that us Aussies need to lift our speed and agression through the terrain to be more competitive.
Besides being a fair bit down, I still had heaps of fun and really enjoyed the physical challenge. It was so nice to be back running in St Helens terrain after 10 years and my agression through green (eg 13-14) is a world away from my early experiences 25 years ago!

Oceania Sprint Champs, University of Tasmania Launceston Campus.
This went pretty well (given first sprint since Aus Champs three months ago!). Could have improved a couple of route choices in the first section, and lost some time on c13 and c20, but finished strongly and happy enough to come 5th (6secs behind 3rd). My first run on this map and I thought it was really fun!

Long day (for small kids in particular) with a morning stop in Deloraine after leaving the boat, the race(s) in Launceston, and then a drive to St Helens late afternoon/evening via Conara Junction.

Travel day from Bright to Geelong, with a few stops including at the Winton Wetlands (Lake Mokoan) near Benalla, and lunch at Euroa. We ate fish and chips by the sea at Geelong and then boarded The Spirit of Tas which eventually set off around 10.30pm.

In the morning we drove up Mt Hotham to do a bushwalk, but the weather was pretty bad up there so I dropped Matt off to run back down the Razorback Ridge and the kids and I headed straight back down again, which was a bummer. We did a little walk around a swimming hole at Harrietville and then the kids played in the river while we waited for Matt.
Later in the arvo I forced myself out for a run on the bike path heading out of town.

Spent a lot of the day out on Mt Buffalo doing a couple of walks and having a picnic lunch. In the arvo the children went with Matt to paddle in the river and I napped instead of doing a run.
