Orienteering race 29:45 [5] *** 6.36 km (4:41 / km) +130m 4:15 / km
spiked:20/20c (sick)

Final run of the year, and my final official run as an M21.
Improving again physically, but still a long way from my best. At least I was only 4 minutes down on Julian today.
Perfect navigational run, but just not able to get moving, especially on the uphills.

The course was a little simple. Less distance and more time in the campus would have been better suited to this area.

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [1] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

Included course 6 with Mason

Note

An interrupted and frustrating year in some ways with 3-4 months of ineffective training due to injury and illness.

Still, I was satisfied with what I achieved considering this.
The highlights were my three state championship wins in the Victorian Long, Middle and Sprint distance events.
I was also very happy with 5th overall at Easter when I was really fit prior to any injuries.

Stats for the year:
334 hrs of training (only 13 less than last year, when I was mostly injury free)
3562.75kms

Hopefully I can stay fit and well in 2009 and get back to my best.

Orienteering race 44:19 [5] **** 7.06 km (6:17 / km) +239m 5:22 / km
spiked:17/20c (sick)

Still sick, but probably the best physical race of the week. I almost caught a minute on Max in the first half, but my fitness and a couple of poor navigational legs let me down in the second half.
I enjoyed the course, taking us to the best parts of the map.

Day 3 - Creswick Diggings
Reasonable run, but no speed again. I felt terrible on the way to 1, and coughed about 8 times before the first control. It didn't get much better and I was slow on all the hills. I led Ben and Reuben through a couple, but I couldn't hang on.

xmas 5 days - day 2, Mt Tarrengower
Felt a bit better in the morning. Not too much coughing before my start. I kept up a reasonable tempo, but still well below my best. I just didn't have the lung capacity to go any faster today, but it was a better pace than yesterday. Probably because the hills weren't quite so brutal.
Still disappointing to not be able to go any faster.

xmas 5 days - day 1 - Sailor's Falls
Good start on the first 4 downhill legs, catching Geoff Lawford 1min and John Toomey 2 mins. Then when the course headed uphill, I really suffered with my chest infection. I had nothing left, and could only jog. I was leading quite a train, but couldn't shake Mace and Susanne. Bryan ran away from me very easily today.
My expectations for the rest of the week are quite low now. My body just hasn't recovered yet.
