Tahoe 24hr Rogaine from Northstar.

I was really apprehensive about this race due to the heat and air quality through the rest of the week out here.

The race day was hot, but not as hot as it had been. I was diligent about eating and eletrolytes in the form of pretzles + Skratch, which is a newfound blessing - much more drinkable than anything else I've found.

I did well through the heat of the day, it started to cool down around 7pm. We got to watch a beautiful sunset at a 100 pt control around 830. Continued our loop back to the car to restock and take a nap. It took longer than the planned 10 hours, and I was getting really hungry for real food.

Once back at the car I ate a can of spaghettios (thumbs up) and some chicken soup (meh) and took an hour nap.

We started off on our second loop, but I had started to not feel the greatest (stomach) despite the food refill. The air quality was also noticeably bad (watching ash drift down on us). Then we saw a bear very close to 44. This was the last straw and we headed back and called it a night. (mostly because of me not feeling well).

At this point I am just frustrated and thinking of calling it quits on racing, at least through the months of May - September. I am sick of feeling like crap, quitting early, and letting down my teammate. I really thought I did everything right this time, with no better outcome.

Relay on a QOC team with MaxA and barrett as the 3rd leg.

The race got off to a bit of a late start after the organizers had to deal with a number of obstacles thrown at them. Joe had a flight to catch, so we switched up the order and he went first, Max went second, and I went third.

By the time I was out there was people in the woods, but not a steady stream of people heading in the same direction as me, so it felt pretty normal. I took the safe choices utilizing the extensive trail network. I still wasnt feeling all that well after the heat killed me on the long, but I kept up a slow and steady trot. All the nav went well, and I was pretty happy with my time of 49 minutes.

We ended up 4th overall in the elite mens category.
