Orienteering race (JK Day 3) 1:59:50 [4] **** 9.2 km (13:02 / km) +200m 11:45 / km
spiked:15/19c shoes: Moremile Cheviots

Bigland. M20L
A much better run than day 2. Spiked the first 4 controls easily, but on #5 thought I'd overshot and relocated off a fence that in reality was before the control, which sent me into the wrong area. Tried too hard to make up time on #6 and ended up setting off on the wrong bearing completely. On the way to #7 got confused by control 208 (when I was looking for 218) and then fell in a bog! After that, the run was pretty plain sailing, though I did make a couple of slight mistakes towards the end as tiredness set in. Though the run wasn't the fastest, it was good to know that it had been more consistent than the previous day.

Orienteering race (JK Day 2) 1:59:45 [4] **** 8.0 km (14:58 / km) +320m 12:28 / km
spiked:17/24c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaws

Ulpha Park. M20L
Not the greatest run ever. Made quite a few significant mistakes and struggled with how physical the area was in places, but learnt quite a lot from it. #1 played it too cautious, and still ended up at a mound way below the control. #2 really struggling to get into the map and ended up convincing myself that I'd found the right boulder, when in reality this one was unmapped and a fair way from the control. Managed to get it together for the next few controls, until #6 when I was distracted by a control further down the hill. #10 took the wrong route choice, tried to go straight to it instead of following the wall in. After that, the run wasn't too bad (just slow!), apart from #17, where I spent ages trying to relocate when I was less than 5 metres from the control and it was just very well hidden.
Looking at the results, it is rather frustrating to see that I could have finished ahead of quite a few people had I had a better first half of the course.

Lancaster University. Mens Open course.
Really enjoyed the course, especially the middle part which offered some interesting route-choice. Also had an error-free run. Ended up further down the field than I wanted to be, but most of that can be put down to not being able to run fast enough.

Note
(rest day)

Spent most of the day travelling to the Lake District for the JKs, along with (so it seems!) most of the rest of the country, judging by the traffic
