Up earlyish for a taxi ride through the busy Guatemala City streets to the bus station. Interesting city from the drive, city gives the impression it is big, busy, colourful, contrasting, smog-ridden, barred-up, scarred with gorges, and continuously inter plays close-knit concrete suburbia with iron sheet slums.
Long bus ride to Rio Dulce, a stop at a road house that did not suggest good eating ahead, but it was a road house. Rio Dulce is a busy Main Street that wouldn't look out of place in a busy Asian city, but off the main strip, it weaves its way around a broad river system and is quite pleasant. Made our way to a bar for a late lunch and beer (some Guat rooster labelled one - standard lager) before getting a boat pickup to our accomodation. Stayed at .... really nice place. Had a cabin over the water within a marina (US coast guard says its the safest place from hurricanes in the Carribean, so lots of boats (read Americans). Pool and some funky board walks. We headed out for a short run which was nice, just out on some dirt roads heading back towards Rio Dulce.
