Running 24:47 [1] 3.5 km (7:05 / km)
shoes: Air Pegasus 30 Darker blue

Up Avian to the middle where logging was in progress. Small explore then back the same way.
More painful than expected. Thought things were easing off a bit but ribs sore throughout. Didn't appear to get worse while running (very slowly) but quite bad afterwards. Definitely worse than on Sunday, but no painkillers this time.

Note

A Sprint's only fun if you can run hard, so just went for a walk instead today.

Orienteering race 37:21 [2] 5.0 km (7:28 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Nationals Middle distance - Osgiliath - 4.4Km
Great course, set by Yvette. As expected, some nice open white forest but with some very tricky controls in the green strip on the second half.
Still generally in quite a lot of pain but was always going to give this a try if I was in any way capable. Had to just jog very slowly and concentrate on going smoothly which was largely achieved. Struggled with the green bits as I couldn't bend down with out a lot of pain and I was desperately trying not to get poked in the ribs. Cost me a bit of time on the way to 4 as I let the terrain push me too far off course, but that was the only time loss of any significance and wasn't really an error as such.

Figured I'd probably still beat a few people who went walkabout, but really ...

Would have had a good race with Carsten under normal circumstances.

No aftereffects from running. It hurt less than being driven along the rough forest track into the area!

Note

Controller at Nationals Long. Not involved in putting out or checking controls as originally intended, but still a long day mostly on my feet. Seemed to go pretty well.

Sunday Oct 18, 2020 #

Note

About an hour walking at Tunnel Gully. Heel getting a bit sore right at the end. Ribs are still very sore, and elbow quite swollen. Have managed to do some walking each of the past 3 days though.

Wednesday Oct 14, 2020 #

Note

Visit to A&E as a lot of pain overnight. As suspected, a fractured elbow and fractured ribs. Now supposed to have my arm in a sling for 2 weeks so it looks like a few days off training and will struggle to do the Nationals.

Cycling 6:30 [3]

Setting out to do the Whitemans Valley loop CW, crashed badly just before the descent and turned back.

Orienteering race 23:37 [4] 4.5 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Air Pegasus 30 Darker blue

Sprint - Wellington College
A fairly long sprint, but good fun as concentration was required most of the way. Bit of a hiccup in the middle - 10s lost 11-12 going into the wrong school entrance, and then about 30s on the following leg. Just lost concentration and forgot to take a turn.
Heels were OK enough to not really affect my running, but could feel them and they're a bit sore now.

Stuart ought to beat me in a Sprint, but turns out he was the planner too ...

Running 46:31 [3] 8.0 km (5:49 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 35

The Dry Creek Loop ACW
Had been supposed to be having the first cricket training of the season, but the time was changed so ended up running. Heel is still an issue. Noticed it going up the steep hill at the start and again in bits later on. No problem running through it in general, but it's still making me put the brakes on downhill. Nice to be out running.

Cycling 1:07:01 [3]

MTB - Porirua.
Just a single loop this time, but including the climb to the top of Colonial Knob. Did some of the proper MTB tracks on the way down towards the bottom.
Feeling good today. Unlike the bike - had to stop to replace the type after about 8 mins.

Cycling 1:14:06 [3]

The extended Whitemans Valley loop CW
Seemed to be a struggle today. Felt like there was a headwind most of the way (basically a fairly gentle southerly). Legs a bit tired.

Cycling 56:48 [3] 25.31 km (2:15 / km)

The Whitemans Valley loop ACW
Good conditions, and felt good so a quick time despite still having to go very carefully through the roadworks.

Cycling 1:57:58 [3]

Another day off, so delivering Oli to Wainui MTB park. Did the same 2 loop ride as before with 2 climbs of the Te Whiti Riser. Felt fairly tired but improved from about half way up Te Whiti Riser the first time. Tired afterwards.

First time it's felt significantly warm while biking.

Orienteering race 30:48 [4] 5.0 km (6:10 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

RK Club Event - Scotts Ferry S. - Red 'long' - 4.6Km
Good solid run. Feet hurt beforehand but the forest was all nice and soft underfoot so no problems during the race, though heels quite tender during the evening. Lost about 15s overshooting 9 slightly but otherwise clean although wandering off slightly on some of the longer bearings.

Orienteering 19:45 [3] 3.0 km (6:35 / km)

Ran round Red Short afterwards but went from 1-3 rather than 1-2-3 as had done those legs before, so about 2.7Km. Fairly gentle pace, just concentrating on accuracy. Enjoyable.

Saturday Oct 3, 2020 #

Note

Golf at RW. Another awful front nine. Just 4 points from holes 4-9! Took until the 12th to hit a fairway / green. Improved towards the end. 104 (28 points)

Cycling 2:04:28 [3]

Left Oli at Makara Peak MTB park and went from there over to the Makara Valley, up to the highest point where the road goes over the ridge into Johnsonville and back, also including a trip to Makara Beach and back. Just under 8 mins at the end doing an out and back along Makara South Rd waiting for Oli.

Enjoyable route, though rather windy at times. Getting a bit tired towards the end.

Cycling 1:11:58 [3]

The extended Whitemans Valley loop ACW
Finally a day without too much wind (though there was still some breeze out there). Feeling good the whole way - even BMR didn't feel too bad.
