Orienteering (British Middles - Bereton) 38:09 [3] 5.0 km (7:38 / km) +285m 5:56 / km

Not a great result though I'm not sure where all the time went! My usual 0.08/8% 'time without mistakes' setting gives five and a half minutes to find. Quite a lot of sub one-minute mistakes, from reading the map improperly and not picking a routes that worked for the whole leg. Didn't feel like I made much use of compass which would have been good for jumping from point to point if there was a way though the bracken.

Orienteering race (British Sprints - Keele) 14:17 [3] 2.5 km (5:43 / km) +50m 5:12 / km

Qualifier Heat C.

Nicest I've done in a sprint race in a good while.

Managed to to a bit of a warm-up and enjoyed the 'head-to-head' racing against Ben Mitchell in the other heat. Just felt I was running quite fast really. Did okay through the first 6 though with a right-hand entry to #3. Always about 3s down though per leg, just running and punching I think.

Knocked down a girl on 7 and entered from the left though from the right would have been better - I'm not sure if it's possible but seeing as I hold my descriptions in my hand I could try and orientate them in order to read the description better, though have mispunched by misreading the code however.

Fairly good on the section on the other side of the wall thought the veg into 9 could have been slightly more accurately mapped. Went low to 12. Passed Owens 13-14. Exited 16 the wrong way - need to look around the exit a bit more. Whatever was going on around 19 was funny but should have still managed to navigate to the correct tree.

A much better pace than usual to put me 60s down on Kris/Jonny with maybe 20s. Fairly pleased as in the past few years I've been more like 2 minutes down. Feel like I've got a bit of sprint mojo back.

Orienteering (British Sprints - Keele) 14:30 [3] 2.9 km (5:00 / km) +55m 4:34 / km

A Final.

Seemed like a while to wait beforehand but on the start line felt like I could do with more rest! Ben Mitchell was setting of 1 minute in front and Rich R 1 behind.

Got round the first lot okay, maybe a few hesitations. Wanted to try and see Ben so pushed on 8-9-10-11. Started to get tired after 12 and got gradually slower round the rest of the course but managed to hold Rich of by a couple of seconds.

Not enough endurance or practice for double racing. 1.45 down this time on the winner (Murray Strain).

Warm-up/warm-down 10:00 [3]
