YHOA Middle Champs Eccy Woods

Probably went into this with the wrong approach - trying to run too fast and kept making little direction / route choice mistakes. Overshot several times leading to poor routes, notably #6 and #9. Some controls were hard to spot e.g. #17. First finisher and felt I’d probably still do quite well as I didn’t make any big mistakes, but the kind of frustrating run when a really good result feels within your grasp - more annoying than times when you’re clearly not even close!

Still, managed to be M35 champ.
Course was ok but could have been more challenging.

Note

Following run managed to lock car keys in boot, oops. Lunch, clothes, water etc. too… Initially thought they were in the woods somewhere so a wild goose hunt for a bit. Meant rest of day not quite to plan… eventually walked some of score course with C and F, then jogged back via a couple of controls from the cafe. Shame I couldn’t do it properly - fairly sure I would have cleared it but probably too much local knowledge to be competitive anyway… Then collected some controls before heading over to the miniature railway before walking home. So lots more low intensity steps for the day!
