Orienteering race 33:32 [4] 3.0 mi (11:11 / mi)

British Relays, Tankersley. 2nd leg for SYO M40 team. 4.3km, 155m. Martin gave me roughly a minute lead over Ben Stansfield running for FVO (I later found out Jon X had mis-punched on their 1st leg and hence the team was dsq). Ran well to the map exchange but then blew 2.5 mins at no.12. Saw the control as I ran past thinking I hadn't gone far enough. Eventually relocated on my 9th control. Ben must have sneaked past whilst I went walkabout and I caught him again between 13 and 14. It was then cat and mouse for the rest of the race. I thought we'd be OK as long as I didn't blow out again as Bill would do the business on last leg. In the event, Jason just beat Bill back, although by this time we were all aware that their team was non comp. Another relay victory despite a poor performance by me. Quentin and Bill did 30, Rachael 31.
Another excellent race and map. Thanks Neil. I look forward to running on the new extension again, preferably in the winter/early spring.

Orienteering race 1:10:18 [4] 6.0 mi (11:43 / mi)

British Champs, Wharncliffe and Greno. M45L, 9.3km, 300m.
2nd to Big Jon by just under a minute. Running strongly despite over 5 hours finishing the setting up of start and running it before I ran. Difficult to switch from organising mode to racing mode but felt I did it pretty well. Accurate start in Greno, catching my 4 minute man (Rob Campbell) between 5 and 6. Then ran with him for most of the course, only loosing him over the last 5 controls. Pretty scrappy in Wharncliffe. Misses at 11, 14, 18 and 23 cost me a total of about 3 minutes.
I shouldn't forget to add to the plaudits of the excellent courses and fantastic new map. Thanks Mr and Mrs J.
