SYO evening event, Wentworth Castle.
Blue course, 5.3km.
I had entered Green but got persuaded by the Planner (Mr Dempsey) to switch to Blue on the start line. That was my first (and biggest) mistake. The first 6 controls were pleasant enough but then we went into some bramble infested woods (which the Green course avoided). #7 was missing (presumed stolen). I had a hunt around until Euan Tryner (the poor sod had chosen to wear shorts) turned up and confirmed that we were in the right place. #9 was on a ride. I ran up the ride without seeing the control and assumed it was also stolen. Other people somehow found it though so maybe I'm just losing the plot?
The last part of the course was in the ornamental gardens and castle on a ISSOM map at 1:3,000. This was quite fun but I struggled to interpret the map in a number of places. How were you supposed to know #7 was on the top of the castle wall?
My Achilles was also starting to object by the end so yet another reason I should have stuck to Green. My nettle stung legs will no doubt remind me all night never to listen to Mr Dempsey again.
