Vaccine day so unable to help out at the XC in Ross as intended - though turns out I was finished in vaccination centre before 10 and could have made it up there before the start.

Instead drove down the road to do a slower run on the levels. Though not that slow. Estimated the route at about 5k but in the end it was 9 so still done a reasonable amount of work.

Lovely morning - didn't realise it was going to rain heavily until after I'd finished and walked around a bit.

Not a lot of inspiration to do anything as the orienteering too far away to be worthwhile. Eventually took an old map out and went around Trellech Common.

Early on was surprisingly nice - better than Soudley Ponds, but second half affected by very recent thinning works with lots of brash and chopped logs, and some brambles. Really struggling not to slip and despite low speed still had a big fall towards the end.

Good to get out and do something, but without flags do appreciate that most of the point features on the map are too insignificant to find with confidence.

Run after work to try and stop getting too fat. Did it, and enjoyed it, but it's still hard work.

Apparently now as fit as I was in April, though hard to compare as heart/blood is the limiting factor now when it was lungs before.

Whitchurch MapRun in typical MapRun weather. Actually very wet on the ground with puddles in the gutters several metres wide.

S-29-19-28-9-10-20-14-21-5-30-24-15-26-18-17-11-25-12-23-F. 430 points.

Whilst wet, and colder than my body is used to at the moment, still enjoyable. And better fitness and more-conventional planning allowed lots of options for somebody returning to fitness.

Generally stuck to my plan from the start. Not wanting to be too greedy and having to rush at the end though added in 26 for a bonus 30 points and only had 3 mins left at the end. Really tiring in the last 25 minutes so watching the time slip away.

Neck feeling almost normal this morning for the first time in a while. Expecting it to get inflamed and sore again after this. Whilst it’s fairly easy to live with, it does knock confidence somewhat.

Both strava and Polar are now saying my “fitness” and cardio strength are back to where they were during May and June.
