First night o of season. Not really fit yet for it but glad to get a lot of the climbing done on way to start rather than on course.
S-11-1-21-13-12-23-2-3-4-29-(27)-19-5-6-30-20-7-8-9-10-F. 320 points.
Planned route to avoid dropping off the side and having to climb back up. Demonstrated why on way to 21 as had to walk it all, and most of the way from 11. Meant I’d fallen off the pack, but got ahead of them again by going to 13 rather than somewhere way too far east.
Managed to get stuck in some properly deep brambly gorse after 23 and legs very pricked. Not pleasant.
27 quite a hard control to get in the dark and torch with just 480 lumens did not appear to be enough to pick out the tree. Strava makes it look like I wasn’t far away. Did find another tree a couple of times and assumed it was the one mapped in undergrowth, but it may have been an unmapped tree further on. Bailed out after a few minutes as was clearly nothing good to relocate from. Bit of crap to get up the hill out.
More relaxed back to the finish as knew plenty of time.
13th of over 50. Extra 30 points from 27 would have got me 11th - which is good given current fitness and ability. Soudley Ponds might be a better chance for bringing the handicap down.
