Running 53:22 [3] 11.23 km (4:45 / km) +150m 4:27 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Nike Pegasus 36

Stop off in Ledbury on the way back. Moving a bit better today but still a long way from my best and feeling tired.

No really planned route but wanted to do a bit of the hill behind the church, the bit along the river and then whatever to get to 10k. Saw quite a lot of other runners out, generally looked to be going faster than me.

Bright sunshine and felt hot again. Just missed heavy rain driving in, and caught it after leaving as was swimming by Much Marcle. Weekend has been a fairly good spread of bits of Herefordshire I don’t normally run in, and been lucky that the wettest I got was Painswick and even that wasn’t so bad.

IDed for second time in a week buying painkillers. Now just a month away from double the legal age... really slows down using self service checkouts.

Running 51:25 [3] 10.28 km (5:00 / km) +150m 4:40 / km

A day for staying mostly on road. Weather abysmal whilst driving in but had turned into intense sunshine by the time I started running.

Revisiting Hampton Park as spent a fair bit of time there, but not for 15+ years now. Taking in a few of the parks and meadows including behind the college.

Mud was barely passable in this shoes - took a lot of stepping carefully and hoping but there was no way I could run up it. Route had more mud than I was expecting. Without mud, still not running up hill well at all - this all felt a lot harder than it usually does.

Drizzle started as I got back into Aylestones Park so did a quick change before getting into the car and an almost unbelievable rain storm came over. Rushed off to get back before the streams flooded but so much surface water it wouldn’t have made much difference. Yet, after Bromyard it was all bone dry. Intrigued to see a 25 year old white Volvo registered “A44” - not sure how I’ve never come across it before.

Running - off road 1:38:42 [3] 19.47 km (5:04 / km) +500m 4:30 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Adidas Terrex Two

Trying to explore different parts of Herefordshire whilst up with mum - so with reasonably nice weather forecast went to Vinnalls to fill most of the gap between Bircher and Ludlow.

Never been to Vinnalls itself before - and it’s steep, and with forestry work and rain, the paths were very slippery. Got to the top and found Rodney Archard setting up his radio mast.

Carried on down towards Richards Castle but didn’t find the footpath I wanted off the common so ended up going quite a long way round and doing a lot more road. Once back on track was a bit reluctant taking footpaths and the one I did was mis-signed and quite deep grass. Found going up this field hard work and had to stop for a bit half way.

No trouble with the hill in Ludlow, but again tiring up to Whitcliffe, and then stop start the rest of the way up to behind the siphon house. Not sure if it’s vaccine related, mud was sapping energy, it was surprisingly hot and sunny, or that I’m just not used to distance/ascent any more - barely able to do 100m between stopping for 20s. Though despite this I’m apparently 2nd fastest on all the segments.

Moving ok once it flattened but didn’t really know where I was going. Opted out of HM distance, and the trig over the road. Had a proper catch up with Rodney and his wife (“Are you the person I saw on Fan Gyhirych?” - yes, in June 2018!) and given some suggestions of other places to go and explore.

Orienteering - MapRun 1:05:21 [3] 12.14 km (5:23 / km) +330m 4:44 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Adidas Terrex Two

Fairly wet (underfoot) Painswick MapRun. No significant side effects beyond arm but not sure how tired I would feel once as started. Did feel tired but hard to say if it’s vaccine or hills.

As ever, not taking it very seriously and planned to go out the far side by Edge. Well behind time before I’d got out of Painswick so stuck with it taking the penalty rather than cutting short and still being late.

S-6-9-25-19-7-26-20-27-10-18-28-17-30-12-13-24-22-11-21-14-15-29-F. 490 points less 70 penalties.

Fair few incremental losses - changed mind after 19 and went for 7 after starting for 10, toilet stop by the stream, missed the turning in for 10 as reading map, 30 didn’t register first time so thought I was in wrong place and went off he wrong way looking for it, rough, wet overgrown downhill 12-13-valley, a minute with a farmers wife telling me off for all the runners worrying the cattle, herding and controlling said cattle... Take these all out and would probably have been in time.

Decent run up the hill at the very end given tired and not wanting to over do it. No KOM finish this week, but seems I got one over in Edge instead.

Hadn’t appreciated the field behind 10 was in bounds when I started. Makes the optimum route more obviously S-7-19-10-27-20-26... and reverse of what I did. Still far from clearable, but a good runner on a good day might get all but no 4 in close to the time.

Just a short one as had to fit run, shower, vaccine and travel to/from all into 2 hour lunch.

Nothing special run, happy for an easier day as legs a bit tight. Feeling very tired this afternoon.

Running intervals 44:54 [4] 10.37 km (4:20 / km) +20m 4:17 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Nike Pegasus 36

Track session on reasonably windy and wet evening - but seems we were lucky and avoided the worst as weather vile driving to and from.

12x400s with 20s jog recovery again. This time taking it easier but keeping the recoveries properly short, and doing the full session. Around 88-91s per 1/4 mile but hard to tell as I wasn’t always finishing at the point as I started. Doing the recovery as a jog (as per noticeboard) rather than static meant again I was on my own after the first rep.

Still not really taken by intervals and don’t think I’m ready for them.

Quite a lot of people asking me what language I write in - how many have thorn and eth in their alphabets? Asking at the wrong time as it changes when I reach a target milestone.

Expecting to have all the athletics and orienteering officials work kick off soon so may be fairly busy. Heard a mention of free lunches.

Running 38:24 [3] 8.14 km (4:43 / km) +160m 4:18 / km

Legs starting to feel a bit more normal - but not in the mood to push and suffering with trapped wind and stomach cramps again.

Around Gaer and up the Ridgeway. Dry apart from the 20 minutes of torrential rain. The cambered bit of this higher path was slow as slippery, and had trouble getting out at the end as the diagonal is now doubly fenced off just before the gate.
