orienteering (shadowing/coaching) 30:00 [2]

First on White with Bridget, then on yellow with Ethan. Coaching today, not just shadowing. Trying to find the right balance between helpful and pushy :-) Bridget was fast! Ethan was tired from so much running at soccer yesterday (he played the full 60 minutes, and the fields are bigger for U11 than U10).

running warm up/down (trails) 8:00 [2]

Guessing at the time. Warm-up for both sprints, to the remote starts.

orienteering race (sprint) 18:00 [5] *

Easy course - which meant I had to run hard. Generally did, but I did slow and go the long way twice to avoid large poison ivy patches.

orienteering race (sprint 2) 25:00 [4] ***

Well, some was advanced, some was very easy. My legs were tired, so it was nice that it was more technical. Sam very nicely let me try her large magnifier, and it took me a few controls to adjust (including one error, partly due to not reading the control description, but also due to not having the hang of the magnifier yet). Probably lost about 4-5 minutes total, maybe less. A little poison ivy avoidance this time too.

As to the magnifiers:
Flip-down: pros- really easy to read the map and can see a large area clearly, also helps when reading control codes on arm
cons- doesn't stay in place, annoying on my head (added to my hair, which is already annoying), and my eyes take a few seconds to adjust back to distance vision, during which I have to stay still or I risk running into things.

Compass magnifier: pros-right there where I need it, don't notice it when I'm not using it, no adjustment of eyes for distance vision/looking at feet
cons- doesn't cover as much area, does not help me read control code numbers on my arm (and I can't read them without some help), glare from sunlight, have to tip it at an angle to avoid glare, will it get smudges??

Still to try: sport goggles/glasses with magnifiers.

No verdict yet.

Cycling (stationary) 47:00 [2]

Feeling tired today. Listened to 'Wishin' and Hopin' on playaway from the Library. Amusing, though not amazing. I do like the ones that are read by the author.

Did some hills, but the knee was hurting some, so I didn't push.

Strength (arms, legs, abs) 35:00 [1]

Tired. Got through it though.

running warm up/down (treadmill) 18:00 [2]
shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Feeling okay, not amazing.

running tempo (treadmill) 20:00 [4]
shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Got the pace down faster, to 6:48 (but didn't feel like I could go faster without breaking through my threshold!). Kept it there for more than a mile, then gradually slowed. Didn't feel that fast, but didn't feel that good either.

Cardio - other warm up/down (treadmill walking) 10:00 [1]
shoes: Asics 2130 Gold

Note

Too much work. Too tired.

Note

Casting the fall play today. What a great bunch of kids. I wish I could give them all leads. Makes me need a run to clear my head, but I've got consecutive parents' evenings tonight and tomorrow, and 1001 work related things to do. I love my job, but it certainly interferes with my training. (But at least I get summers!)
5 AM

Swimming 45:00 [2]

Knee feeling gradually better. First bit of breaststroke kick bothered it, but then it settled and it has been fine all day.

Maybe I need to do MORE breast stroke kick to strengthen it ....
