Fell Running (OMM Dartmoor ) 3:40:41 [3]

Actually slept quite well on my bubble wrap although kept waking all night casue was lying on my bad knee and it was caning!

Had a comedy moment at the start, was just waiting to go and these two lads raced up and panicing demanded to be released ' we're starting at 0910!' to whicht he race official replied thats fien lads its ten past seven... they'd put theyre watches the wrong way... set me up for the day a treat!

Good route choice again, though potntially there was a 20 pointer I elected to miss early on, thatw e 'may' have been able to get, but don'ty think so and possibly would ahve meant we left one of the final ones....

Came 19th second day and 14th overall so not bad.

Won the parent/child class but due to some mix up they gave the prize tot he second placed team who were 22nd! some phoen calls to be made methinks!

All in all very enjoyable, but for a better position, mental note to self don't do Niek Grid for the week before
7 PM

Nike Grid 2:00:00 [4]

Couldn't help myself, cause although feeling really achey after them OMM, there were some serious points on offer tonight, but couldn't maximise this tot he full potential as my puleld groin was still givign me gyp, but managed to secure the personal crown before I limped home...

Anyone know any groin treatments?

Fell Running race (OMM Datmoor) 4:18:10 [4]

Not a bad run, ended up 15th overall for Day 1, the score aspect adds a whole new twist on it. In reflection our route choice was fairly good considering the ebat up shape we were both in... not a good sign to be hobbling before the start!

Only 'mistake' was that I made a bad call at the end which meant we left a 10 pointer loose and came in 40 min early - what a waste!

Good days running though, weather was pleasant and we got a good camping spot.

Nice camp this year, got to do the rounds and chat to a few peopel and we made the chasing start for the morning although this does eman a 0712hrs start...

Note

Resting before OMM, think the body needs it...

Llamas were out in force last night, hopefully they will calm down a bit when no challenger raiser their head over the weekend...

Nike Grid (Day 7) 30:00 [3]

I know I said yesterday was my last day, but noticed if I ping of two of the western ones, I'd get my endurance 12 badge... so did.

No Llamas have run in NW1 since last night so squandered this mornings opportunity for points so still ahead.

E1 - Still clear by miles

Llamas have done 2 legs today - need to keep an eye on it and tip off the boys to make sure they don't get the bonuses

Nike Grid (Day 6) 1:45:00 [3]

Finally went back into NW1 today and reclaimed the crown, we should also get the team crown as jayne visited for a bit and is splitting the second two of the Llamas runners on points and Evan came to put in an appearance, however the frequency and speed points haven't gone on so not officially got the Team crown back yet...

Am in pain at the moment so am now going to rest till Sat am, to make sure can do the OMM

Nike Grid (Day 5) 48:17 [3]

After losing the team crown in this postcode yesterday feeling guilty so time to make amends, got up about half 5 (5 hours sleep is enough for anyone) and headed in, unfortunately train took ages! this worked out fine though as squeezed in 5 reps and reclaimed the crown, so just ahve to monitor who does what and make sure I just do 1 more thean thema nd get the frequency points, hopefully will gett he spped bonus as nailed the leg i did the other day in 4:11 in 3.54.
1 PM

Nike Grid 34:55 [3]

Popped out in lunch for a quick blitz into NW8, picked up 170 points which will help in next weeks blitzerieg1
6 PM

Nike Grid 40:00 [3]

Quick run upto NW1 to keep things close but not enough time to secure frequency-got speed though!
7 PM

Nike Grid 2:30:00 [3]

Met up with some of th eteam to secure the team badges in SE11 and SE5, picked up the speed badge for SE5 - nice

Still aching and tired, lost bloody NW1 agaun, will actually have to run there tomorrow

On the up sde found a £1 in one of the phone boxes :)

Nike Grid (Day 4) 4:01:28 [3]

Day 3 and feeling drained after yesterday, surprisingly, so planning to take it easy.

However didn't happen, the eliza doolittle glitch appeared in Vinces zone of W12, and the team crown looked threatened from 'Just Run It' so went over and provided some support for Vince.

Was quite pleasant actually in a painful sort of way, much longer reps than yesterday average of about 6min per leg over the four hours, was good as Vince was on the reverse leg from about 7 for about 3 hours so kept each other going, went for a wagamamas afterwards with Vince and Cherry although my stomach has forgotten what proper food is, managed to force down 3/4 bowl of rice.

However due to my absence for the last two days I lost the NW1 crown and the team one....

Nike Grid (Day 3 of the GRID) 8:09:54 [3]

Thought I'd go out a bit earlier than planned as it was sunney and have a pleasant run from London bridge up to Hampstead heath and cover off a few postcodes and try for some speed badges before settling in to NW1 during power trio hour and securing my home postcode prior to the OMM...

Didn't quite work, got as far as E1 to pick up the Stealth badge but then spent the next several hours (6/7) shuttling between the two scoring points, apart from the mad 40 min where I thought i could out run Ollie on a bike over 5K with a rubbish street map to get a lunar..... That classed as my break.

Had a lot of company thanks mainly to carys and Mike who came to enjoy the monotony and keep me company, SLOW held off JRI easily and I now have the most points in the city....

Good work team!

Nike Grid race (2nd day) 4:02:00 [3]

Went out after work again and thought while the glitch game was on, I'd see if the JRI guy in NW8 really wanted that postcode and took it off him.... turns out he did and took it back two hours later, scared me off now need to focus on my postcode as saw the No2 of NW1 last night and although a bit week and only out for a couple of hours faster overall than me, however I did get the speed badge, but apparently not the frequency badge... need to rectify that tomorrow.
8 AM

Nike Grid (Nike Grid second day) 1:25:00 [3]

Tried to get out for the bonus points in the early run, but forgot alarm doesn't work on a sat sun, unless I tell it too... so missed out

Good running though, hopefully got the speed badge today with a 4:11 in NW1 and covered off a few other postcodes for the team.

Pete tipped me off to a lunar call in NW8 but was slightly too slow! Beaten by 1 min, however that was after 5 min of tryign to find another phonebox when a polish builder was ringing home from the first one!

Good stretch out though!

Nike Grid race (Day 1) 4:00:00 [3]

Approx time as was too busy concentrating on picking up and down phones...

Clear at present by 380 points and have the crown for NW1, ran from about 1830 to approx 2230.

Now off to bed to get up early to try and score triple points between 5 and 7!

Rest day today before Day one of the Grid tomorrow!

Woo!

Street O Series race (Winchill Street O) 42:00 [4]

Travelled up to d'north of London today for Happy Herts first try at Street O and wasn't too bad, noticed the rookie errors of using colours of doors for answers, always difficult in the dark and one definite obscure control... but a good effort nonethless. Don't think the planner appreciated Ed and I fussing about the exact location of the dots on the map not being precisely accurate!

Good run though, small entries but Ed entered,l which was dissapointing as meant came second, but kept me in my box as he beat me by 50 points.

Nice to have a race in.

Just looked at the results and 2nd out of 14 isn't actually that good, but hey still 2nd...

Tuesday Oct 19, 2010 #

Warm up 10:00 [3]

Jog to Windmill from Station and then to start point for Tintervals

Speed Training (SLOW Informal session 3) 18:00 [4]

Intervals on the common again, 3 sets of 3min out with 1 min rest then 3 back with 3 min rest between sets.

Overdid it on the first one again cause although felt awesome and was fastest/furthest out, was dying for the rest of the session... also surprsingly difficult to be loud when shoutign out timings and trying to sprint.... May have strained my voice slightly as sounding a little husky today.

Was a good session overall, just hope everyone enjoyed it.

Warm Down 30:00 [3]

Dodgy warm down again, was in ribbons on the initial run back to the Pub, but after a beer and some Grid discussion felt better (Pasta probably helped too), then normal from pub to station then from station to home

Thursday Oct 14, 2010 #

Running 46:06 [3]

Went and recce'd the NW1 grid last night, 4 phoneboxes and about 4k for about 3 of the legs, going to be a big one... approx an hour I reckon for all the combinations, need to wait for further rules before I solidify my plans...

Looking forward to it though, far too overexcited though!

Running 35:52 [3]

Thought i'd better ge tout and do something after a fun day ironing and mincing on the internet, as I like to call myself a 'runner' from time to time.

Easy route out by river, across the loch, upto Richmond then back through St Margarets and Isleworth

Easy but at least I did it, legs still tired from last night

Tuesday Oct 12, 2010 #

7 PM

Warm up warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Jogged from Fulham Broadway Station to the start by Wandsworth bridge...

Amused myself by repeatedly passing the same runner who was slogging along th eroute, then stopping and tying my shoelace, letting him past then going past him again, everytime I went past him he got slower....

I was wearing combat trousers and a rucksack, so looked proper heavy!
8 PM

Street O Series race 58:48 [4] **

Good run, cam in fifth, missed one ten pointer cause misread the clue and spent 2 min looking for a building number instead of the name of th eafe! Doh!

Couldn't have improved my position really as was 20 points down on Paul and got everthing worth more than 10 points and didn't have the time to get more than 1 more....

March and Shoot race (2010 March and shoot comp) 19:38 [5] 2.0 mi (9:49 / mi)

Again we have come second to D Company in this competition, 5 years in a row!!!!!!! Now I know I'm the only team member to have been in the team for all these years but really getting to me now!

2 miles run with 35kgs, including helmet and rifle, with webbing and boots, most of the team ok, but had to drag Johno around froma bout a half mile in, not the best for my runnign technique.

Did well on the shoot, tiop score of 21, shoot from 400m then 100m sprint to engage targets at 300m (40secs before targets went down) then same again to 2, and 1, fired prone from 400+300, kneeling unsupported at 200 and standing at 100.

Was first to the point by a good 10 seconds from 200-100 and put down 3 of the 5 targets.... cheese only beat me between 3-200m as I got up from the ground slow, somwething to do with being the oldest I reckon...

Am going to hammer the boys for the next 12months as I want this trophy!!!!

Saturday Oct 9, 2010 #

Note

On the ranges for the day so no opportunity to run...

Thursday Oct 7, 2010 #

Note

Due to a couple too many Guinesses, the master plan of running this morning prior to work did not come to fruition, so failed!

Need to be stronger willed in the pub!

Wednesday Oct 6, 2010 #

Note

Due to disorganisation, not getting a run in today as had no shirts in work, so nothing to change into if I ran and out tonight for Dais birthday, so an enforced rest day - probably need it though if I'm going to sustain the training

Tuesday Oct 5, 2010 #

Warm up 10:00 [3]

Easy jog to the windmill pub - had a laugh at the people paying £10 for a Military Fitness session, thought about undercutting them and getting them to do our session for £5, met the troops then ran to start point on far side of the common

Speed Training (SLOWS 2nd Unofficial Trai) 30:00 [4]

Good turn out this week, with Evan in America, we still had 5 turn up, me,Nick, slowphil, Paula nd Mike - so looking good

did 3 sets of 3min out, 1 min rest, 3 min back, 3 min rest

Was good, definately lost it since last time I did some proper training, but thats fairly obvious really.

Looking forward to future sessions.

Apparently we were doing 3.35min per k so around 18min for a 5k....

Warm Down 32:15 [3]

You can call it a warm down I suppose but essentially it consisted of run back to the pub, have a pint, run to the station, sit on train then run home, time is total running time, (not the cumulative of sitting in pubs and on trains...)

Monday Oct 4, 2010 #

Running 34:01 [3]

Thought it was about time I got serious again, so started easy and did from work to Hammersmith. Quite slow really, I'll update with distance later, but wore OMM jacket out of habit and there really wasn't any need + had backpack on.

Just got to keep up the focus

Sunday Oct 3, 2010 #

Urban O race (Warwick Town Race) 43:16 [4]

No time for a warm-up as train was redirected and ran late so made the start with a minute to go, this proved costly later.

Nice run, if a bit wet underfoot, still think trainers were the best option overall, even though I was slip sliding around through the park sections...

Beat Ollie by 15/16 seconds which is always good and was only a couple of minutes down on a hungover Ed...

Now I obviously didn't have my race head on completely cause stopped for a pee at No.4 and lost about a minute doing that, and definately could have clawed back some time elsewhere....

Opportunity squandered
